Bout of Passage is a side quest in the Norgandian Settlement that turns on a simple request from a father named Dorin: fight his son, Dwayne, bare-fisted. Before the fight, Dwayne privately asks for it to be thrown, so there is a decision to make before any punches land.
Quick answer: Hear Dorin out by the bonfire, speak with Dwayne inside the inn, remove both your weapon and shield, hail Dorin and pick “I am.”, then beat Dwayne with your fists to earn 75,000 XP and 3,000 RC.
This walkthrough follows one path: winning the bout without handing Dwayne the extracts. Throwing the bout and handing over the extracts are the other paths, and what they pay is not covered here.
Where Bout of Passage starts in the Norgandian Settlement
The quest starts outside the Norgandian Inn by day. After a rest at the inn until morning, stepping out of the door starts a talk with Dorin beside the bonfire by itself. There is no need to hail him, and no choice is presented. Soul Searching and When the Culling Gets Tough were both already completed when he asked.
Dorin asks you to fight a bout against his son, Dwayne. He describes it as an old Norgan tradition, a rite of passage that shows a fighter is ready to face battle alone, and he wants you as the measure of how far Dwayne has come. Dwayne walks up during the talk and says he wants a word with you himself. Dorin then adds that it must be a fair, hand-to-hand fight, that you are not to drink anything to give yourself an edge, and that you should speak with him when you are ready and set your weapons aside first.
When the quest is added, the banner reads “Bout of Passage” and “Speak with Dwayne.”, followed by “Bout of Passage” and “Dorin asked you to participate in a bout.”

Add to Google Preferences →Dwayne’s private request and the optional extracts
Dwayne runs the Norgandian Inn and waits inside. Walking up to him starts his talk by itself. He comes straight to the point: he wants you to throw the match, and he offers a reward for it. He explains that his father will be disappointed if he loses, that it has to look like a close contest, and he asks you to bring him two extracts, a savagery extract and a stoutness extract, so that he can stand up to a few blows.

After his talk the banners read “Bout of Passage” and “Dwayne asked you to throw the bout.”, then “Bout of Passage” and “Dwayne asked you to procure some extracts.”

The task line becomes “Speak with Dorin when you are ready for the bout.”
The extracts are a request, not a requirement. Hail Dwayne again by holding F on “Hail (Hold to Talk)” and he asks whether you have brought them. A Deliver screen opens, labelled “Specified Delivery Only”, with two slots that each read “x0/1”.

The first slot is Savagery Extract, described as “A concoction of natural medicines fortified with magick. Drink it to boost your Strength and Magick for a period of time.” Without either extract, pressing F shows “You do not possess the item(s) required for delivery.” with “OK”.
Cancelling the screen makes Dwayne admit that he would be grateful for the extracts but that they are not strictly necessary. He then offers the inn’s services as usual, so you can move straight to the bout.
Remove your weapon and shield before the bout
Dorin stands by the bonfire outside the inn. Hailing him with a weapon equipped does not start the bout: he tells you to set your weapons aside first, because the bout is hand-to-hand by Norgan tradition.
You need to unequip both your weapon and shield. Leaving the sword off but keeping the shield equipped makes Dorin repeat the same line, confirming that the shield is treated as a weapon.

Dorin’s rules at the bout ground
After “I am.” the screen fades and opens at the bout ground, a clearing on higher ground with small standing stones and a lit brazier. Dorin announces that this is where the bout will be held, and Dwayne arrives a moment later.
Dorin then lays out the rules. Together with what he said at the bonfire, they come to this:
- Fists only: no throwing, no magick and no weapons.
- Equipment cannot be changed once the bout has begun; changing it means disqualification.
- No potions or curatives during the fight.
- Stay inside the area. Drinking a potion or leaving the area means the bout is held anew.
- The bout is held only once.

Dwayne warns that he will not go easy on you. The banner “Bout of Passage” and “Participate in Dwayne’s bout.” appears and control returns.

Win the fist fight against Dwayne
You fight Dwayne bare-fisted. The on-screen hints show “Light Attack” on the left mouse button, “Heavy Attack” on V, “Dash” on Shift and “Jump” on Space. Dwayne has a short magenta health bar over his head with no name on it.

Dorin stands by the brazier and watches. Partway through the fight Dwayne calls out, begging you to let him win.

Keep the fight inside the clearing. Walking away from the standing stones makes Dorin shout after you; the screen fades, he repeats the rules, calls the bout off and has it start over. Dwayne gives his warning again and the bout begins from the start. This can happen more than once, and the quest does not fail.

Reward and how you know the bout is done
When Dwayne’s bar runs out the fight ends in a scene. Dorin stops the bout, and Dwayne demands to know why you did not let him win. He then admits to his father that he tried to rig the bout. Dorin tells his son he could not have been disappointed by a loss, both of them thank you, and Dwayne hands over the reward he had promised.

The end-of-bout banner reads “Bout of Passage” and “You won the bout.” with the lines “+75000 XP”, “+0 Dcp” and “3000 RC”, then “Bout of Passage” and “Completed: Bout of Passage” with the red seal. Winning without handing over the extracts pays 75,000 XP and 3,000 RC, with no gold line and no item line shown.

Once “Completed: Bout of Passage” appears, put your gear back on in the same place: Pause Menu, “Equipment”, press F on the item, then “Equip”.
