Pearls are a Level 40 crafting material tied to the Veilwater Basin, and you will want a steady supply once you reach the Flame upgrade that demands them. They feed directly into Mother-Of-Pearl, which in turn goes into gear, consumables, and a long list of furniture. Here is exactly where both come from and what each one builds.
Quick answer: In the Veilwater Basin, gather Pearls by opening roughly a hundred shell chests, each yielding 1 Pearl, and by defeating Drak’Dal. Then grind 1 Pearl at the Mill to make 5 Mother-Of-Pearl.
Where Pearls come from in the Veilwater Basin
Pearls come from the Veilwater Basin, and there are two ways to gather them. Shell chests are the dependable option. Each shell chest holds exactly 1 Pearl, and roughly a hundred of them are scattered across the basin, so opening every one you pass adds up quickly.
The second source is the Drak’Dal. These enemies have a chance to drop Pearls when defeated, and the drop appears in their loot window.
| Enemy | Chance | Pearls |
|---|---|---|
| Drak’Dal Spearfisher, Hunter, Priest, Broodwarden | 10% | 1 |
| Drak’Dal Chieftain | 10% | 2 or 3 |
| Hydrak’Dal | 10% | 1 |
Pearl is a Common material that stacks up to 250. Its in-game description reads: “A gorgeous pearl. The magnetic pull of its lustrious shine is only enhanced by its rarity.”

Raising the Flame from level 8 to level 9 takes 30 Pearls, 1 Hydrak’Dal Head, and other materials. Set aside enough Pearls for this goal before using any elsewhere.
Turning Pearls into Mother-Of-Pearl
At the Mill, Pearls can be processed into Mother-Of-Pearl. A single Pearl yields 5 Mother-Of-Pearl, with 60 seconds required for each batch.
A nearby force generator is required for the Mill to operate. Windmill sails or a partially submerged water wheel qualify as nearby force generators. Mother-Of-Pearl is a Common material with a stack limit of 250, and its in-game description reads: “The natural iridescent material that pearls are made of, it can be found lining the inside of certain shells and valued for its luminous shimmer.”
What Pearls are used for
Pearls go into the Flame upgrade, the Mill conversion, and three Alchemist recipes. The Alchemist items each need just 1 Pearl alongside their other ingredients.
| Use | Pearls | Station |
|---|---|---|
| The Flame, level 8 to 9 | 30 | Flame altar |
| 1 | Mill | |
| Diver’s Endurance Flask | 1 | Alchemist |
| 1 | Alchemist | |
| 1 | Alchemist |
Diver’s Endurance Flask also needs 10 Algae, 10 Algae Buds, and 10 Mother-Of-Pearl. Eternal Heal Beam I pairs its Pearl with 15 Green Vitriol Dust, 50 Shroud Slime, and 5 Bursting Fell Heart. Prismatic Ward uses 2 Gold Bars, 1 Aquamarine, and 2 Bursting Fell Heart.
What Mother-Of-Pearl is used for
Mother-Of-Pearl spreads across consumables, upgrade materials, and Carpenter furniture. The Carpenter maritime and castle pieces account for most of the demand.
