Plant Fiber is easy to find in Enshrouded, but it runs out quickly. A single base upgrade can use up a full pocket of it. It is also the starting material for String, which shows up in hundreds of recipes. The way to keep up is to harvest it as you travel, clear a farm field that grows back, and eventually plant your own shrubs at base.
Quick answer: Harvest bushes and low plants anywhere in Embervale for Plant Fiber. Then open Crafting (V) and make String at 3 Plant Fiber each, or plant Shrub Seedlings for a renewable supply.
Plant Fiber is a Common, item level 1 material that stacks to 250 per slot. Its in-game description suggests it is tough enough to be twisted into cord, and that is exactly how most players end up using it.
Where to harvest Plant Fiber in each Enshrouded region
Walk up to a bush or low plant and press the interact key when you see the Collect or Harvest prompt. On PC that key is E. Most plants also give Twigs. You can start doing this as soon as you leave the Cinder Vault. The plants that give Plant Fiber look different in each biome:
| Region | Plants that drop Plant Fiber |
|---|---|
| Springlands | Green leafy bushes, ferns, dried-up plants, sapling bushes |
| Revelwood | Blackberry shrubs, large ferns on the forest floor |
| Nomad Highlands | Low steppe bushes (including leafless and cactus-like ones) |
| Kindlewastes | Dry desert shrubs |
| Albaneve Summits | Heather, juniper and alpine rose bushes |
| Blackmire | Red moss hanging from tall trees |
| Veilwater Basin | Marsh shrubs and Monstera foliage |
| Cinder’s Cradle | Thyme and bean plants |
There are a few other sources. In the Springlands, small twig bundles on the ground give 2–4 Plant Fiber plus Twigs. Plant Fiber also sometimes lies in the world as a loose item you can pick up. Some lootable and breakable containers can drop it too, but what they contain varies, so bushes remain the dependable source.
The first Plant Fiber you pick up also unlocks the String recipe, so you don’t need to do anything else to learn it.

Add to Google Preferences →Plant Fiber farm route southwest of Braelyn Bridge
Early on, you don’t have to search Embervale for individual bushes. An abandoned farm southwest of Braelyn Bridge is packed with brush and corn. The whole field grows back a short time after you clear it, so you can return and harvest it again.

Your equipped weapon does not change how fast you gather. Holding a wand, for example, doesn’t speed up harvesting.
Grow Plant Fiber at your base with Shrub Seedlings
A shrub farm turns 1 Plant Fiber into 20. It needs a Farmer and a Seedbed, but once those are in place you no longer have to leave base to collect fiber.

Unlock the Farmer
First, rescue the Hunter and finish the Flame Altar and Base Improvements quest. That unlocks the Farmer’s quest, Growing Stronger Together. It leads you to Emily Fray in the Ancient Vault in Revelwood. Once she is in your base, she offers 135 recipes, including the Seedbed, Farm Soil, Fertilised Farm Soil, and several of the pet and animal items that use Plant Fiber.

A second Farmer, Fenrig Mills, Jr., lives in the Springlands and is the reward for the quest Bring Back The Pure Souls. He has the same 135 recipes, so either Farmer can give you the Seedbed.

Seedbed and Farm Soil costs
| Item | Ingredients | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Springlands Dirt, Bonemeal | Farm Soil | |
| 10 Wood Logs, 10 Farm Soil, 2 Metal Scraps | 1 Seedbed | |
| 1 Plant Fiber, 1 Farm Soil | 5 Shrub Seedlings |
To get dirt, dig into the ground with your pickaxe. Bonemeal comes from defeating skeletons, or from crushing their bones at a grinding stone. The Seedbed is the crafting station that produces Shrub Seedlings.

Plant and harvest the shrubs

Homegrown shrubs can only be harvested once. Save some of each harvest to craft a new batch of seedlings, or the farm stops producing.
How to make String from Plant Fiber
String is a Common, item level 5 material that stacks to 250. Most early tools and stations are held together with it. You can craft it by hand right away, and two workstations make it cheaper later.
The String goes straight into your inventory, and the Plant Fiber count in the recipe drops by three for each one you make.

String recipes by station
| Method | Input | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Hand crafting | 3 Plant Fiber | 1 String |
| 2 Plant Fiber | 1 String | |
| 10 Plant Fiber | 10 String |
The Hunter crafts the Spinning Wheel from 2 Wood Logs, 2 Wood Planks, 3 Fossilized Bone, 2 Bronze Bars and 5 Nails. You must already know the Loom recipe before it appears. The Spinning Machine becomes available after you have rescued the Hunter and picked up Raw Wool. At that point every Plant Fiber becomes one String, compared with three Plant Fiber per String by hand.
Paper Reed can replace Plant Fiber in all three recipes. It is an item level 1 material that grows near lakes, and picking it up also unlocks the String recipe.

String drops from spiders
Spiders drop String every time you kill one, so you can skip crafting entirely if you hunt them:

| Enemy | String per kill |
|---|---|
| Spider | 1 |
| Spitting Spider | 1 |
| Spider Mama | 2–3 |
Spiders in the Albaneve Summits yield String in the same quantities as spiders in the lower regions.
Plant Fiber recipes in Enshrouded 1.0
Many recipes use Plant Fiber directly, not just as String. Roofing, lighting, bedding, armor and explosives all take a share:

The Plant Fiber Roof Block gives the best return of any recipe here. Five fiber makes 50 thatched roof blocks, so roofing an early shelter costs very little. The Big straw mat is the opposite case, using 20 fiber for one piece of furniture.
Marksman Boots are Rare Ranger feet armor at item level 10. They give 5 Physical Armor, 5 Magical Armor and 6 Stamina, plus the perks Eagle’s Bane 1 and Stamina Regeneration 6.

The Beehive also uses Plant Fiber, at 3 per Wax. Wax is the ingredient behind most of the game’s lighting.

String recipes that use the most Plant Fiber
String appears in 228 recipes. Most of your Plant Fiber ends up there, especially in the first hours of the game. These are the ones you will make first:
- Workbench: 3 String and 8 Wood Logs, crafted by hand
- Hand-craft each of these with 1 String: Axe, Pickaxe, Bow and Staff.
- Bandage: 1 Torn Cloth and 1 String
- Tiny Backpack requires 5 String along with 3 Torn Cloth.
- Small Chest: 3 String at the Workbench
- Grappling Hook: 4 Metal Scraps, 7 String and 10 Shroud Spores at the Workbench
- Glider: 8 Shroud Wood, 2 Animal Fur, 2 String and 2 Shroud Spores at the Workbench
By hand, the Grappling Hook alone costs 21 Plant Fiber in String. A Workbench, a Tiny Backpack and a set of four tools add another 36. That math explains why fiber disappears so quickly early on. It is also why moving to the Spinning Wheel, then the Spinning Machine, and keeping a separate stack of raw Plant Fiber in base storage for roofs and furniture makes a noticeable difference.
