Enshrouded 1.0: What Return Beacons Do and Where to Find Them

Return Beacons set your respawn point and refill Time in the Shroud. There are 295 across the map, and 44 of them are indoors.

Return Beacons are the round dark stone pods with glowing amber lights that sit on flat stone slabs across Enshrouded’s world. They matter because they decide where you come back after you die, and they keep you alive longer inside the Shroud.

Quick answer: A Return Beacon becomes your respawn point and refills Time in the Shroud. You don’t activate it, because walking up to it is enough. The map holds 295 (251 open world, 44 inside).

What a Return Beacon does

The game explains both with on-screen hints the first time you run into them.

  • Respawn point: “If you fall, you will rise again at your last Return Beacon.”
  • Shroud refill: “Return Beacons replenish your Time in the Shroud. Stand near them to feel their effect.”

The second job ties directly into the Time in the Shroud timer. Standing near a beacon while you’re inside the Shroud tops that timer back up.

Inside the Shroud, a Return Beacon glows beside the player, with a tip reading “Return Beacons replenish your Time in the Shroud. Stand near them to feel their effect.”

No interaction prompt shows up. You walk close, the hint appears, and the beacon is already working.

First Return Beacon: Outside the Cinder Vault mine

You reach your first beacon right after the starting area, on your way out of the Cinder Vault.

Travel through the Cinder Vault mine to its easternmost door, which serves as the exit.
Step through the door onto the grassy ledge just outside. The Return Beacon stands on that ledge.

Return Beacons in the Shroud and inside dungeons

Beacons aren’t limited to the open world. Some sit inside dungeons, and the Springlands Elixir Well is a good example. Its beacon stands on the platform at the top of the well, inside the Shroud. When you walk up to it, the game shows “Return Beacons replenish your Time in the Shroud. Stand near them to feel their effect.”

That beacon serves as your respawn point as well. After falling down the well shaft, you’ll see “You have fallen…” and can hold E to respawn (see how death and respawning work). You reappear on the upper platform beside the beacon, rather than at your Flame Altar.

Each later death in the well sends you back to the same spot, whether you fall again or the Fell Thunderbrute kills you. The route from there back down to the fight is covered in the Elixir Well return route.
