Reach the Elders’ Night Sanctum, open the night door, and awaken Elio Ricci with a Summoning Staff to unlock character customization.

Elio Ricci, the Barber, sleeps inside the Elders’ Night Sanctum, the location where the Springlands meet the Revelwood. He is the survivor you rescue during the quest “Illuminate The Night”, and once he is at your base he lets you change your character’s look.

How to reach Elio Ricci through “Illuminate The Night”

The quest “Illuminate The Night” walks you from a strange barrier on your map all the way to the sleeping Barber. It opens with the Flame directing you to investigate a point it cannot see past.

The Flame senses a barrier, built by the elder Ancients, that inhibits its reach and vision. Whatever is hidden behind the barrier is invisible to the Flame — making it all the more interesting for you. Reach and investigate the dark barrier!

Use the Flame’s map marker as your guide to the dark barrier.
The barrier turns out to be the door of the Elders’ Night Sanctum. The journal then sets the next step:

You’ve reached a location known as a “Night Sanctum”. The barrier you’ve set out to investigate revealed itself to be a door. However, the star and moon ensemble decorating its facade indicates this to be no ordinary door, and it doesn’t seem susceptible to force. Find a way to open the night door and explore the inside of the temple!

Work out how to unlock the night door and descend through the sanctum. Make your way down to the sleeping survivor.
Use your Summoning Staff on the sleeping survivor to awaken Elio Ricci. The journal step reads:

You found a sleeping survivor in the bowels of the Night Sanctum! Summon the survivor with a Summoning Staff to continue!

If you need a refresher on awakening and relocating survivors, the process mirrors how you summon a survivor to your base.

What the Barber does at your base

After Elio Ricci reaches your base, the quest ends and you can speak with him. He does not craft items. Talking to him brings up the Customize screen, where you can adjust your character’s hair, beard, and all the other customization options.

Where to find the wig heads for more hairstyles

Extra haircuts for the Customize screen come from wig heads you pick up in the world. Five of them make up the Hairstyles item set, and owning all five completes it for 1,500 XP. Every wig head carries the same item text:

A wig head that unlocks more haircuts once picked up. It can also be placed in your base as decoration.

Elio Ricci’s follow-up quests

After the Barber settles in, he hands out a short chain of tasks, each tied to a specific place.

Barber Needs Shelter

The Barber needs a proper place to sleep. Build him a sheltered bed to progress!

Coffee, The Greatest Good

He asks you to find a machine for roasting coffee beans in Stillwater Bay, “a town with a large harbor and nearby coffee plantations”.

Not So Scary After All

Search for a Fell Critter plushy in Pikemead’s Reach, then talk to the Farmer, Emily.

Star Signs

The Barber wants a telescope. Find out how to assemble one; an observatory in Cinder’s Cradle is the place to start, and the Giant Telescope recipe guide covers that search.
