In EA Sports FC 27, SBCs no longer require an eleven-player lineup with matching positions, chemistry links, and a squad rating. EA now uses a points-based system called Streamlined SBCs for most Player and Upgrade SBCs: each card has a fixed value, and you submit enough cards to meet the listed total.
Quick answer: Reach the required Item Score by submitting eligible cards from your Club. Each card’s points come from its overall rating and rarity, duplicates count, and progress saves between sessions.
How the point-based format replaces squad building
When you open a Streamlined SBC, you see every eligible item in your Club rather than an empty formation. You pick which cards to hand over, and each one adds its Item Score to a running total until you hit the number the challenge asks for. EA laid out the mechanic in its FUT Deep Dive Pitch Notes, confirming the same Item Score also powers the new FUT Gallery.
With position and chemistry checks removed from most of these challenges, several combinations can reach the same total. A requirement of 5,000 points could mean using a pile of 76-rated cards or just one 87-rated card, and five goalkeepers still qualify. That freedom is the format’s main benefit, making duplicate fodder much easier to clear.
You can tell a Streamlined SBC apart from a traditional one at a glance. It shows a point target at the bottom of the page, while a normal SBC still displays an X/X completed counter for its tasks.

The exact rating does not change a Bronze or Silver card’s fixed contribution. Bronze cards rated 45 to 64 each provide 20 points, while Silver cards rated 65 to 74 each provide 35 points. Gold cards increase in value with their overall rating, with the gains becoming much larger above 84.
| Gold OVR | Score | Gold OVR | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75 | 90 | 88 | 8,300 |
| 76 | 100 | 89 | 11,000 |
| 77 | 120 | 90 | 14,000 |
| 78 | 140 | 91 | 19,000 |
| 79 | 160 | 92 | 20,000 |
| 80 | 180 | 93 | 25,000 |
| 81 | 280 | 94 | 30,000 |
| 82 | 340 | 95 | 40,000 |
| 83 | 410 | 96 | 55,000 |
| 84 | 830 | 97 | 85,000 |
| 85 | 2,100 | 98 | 90,000 |
| 86 | 4,100 | 99 | 100,000 |
| 87 | 5,500 | — | — |
Cards below 85 lose value quickly, meaning substantial rewards still require substantial fodder. For modest totals, stacks of Bronze and Silver cards remain practical; for a large target, a single highly rated Gold card can cover a sizeable portion immediately.
The launch values are provisional rather than fixed for the entire year. EA plans to monitor completion data and player feedback before adjusting the numbers, so use this scale as the initial baseline, not a permanent one.
Duplicates and partial progress make fodder easier to clear
Two Club-management updates define this system. Duplicate cards are valid submissions, allowing several copies of one player to count toward the same target instead of leaving packed duplicates stuck in your Club.
The game preserves incomplete submissions as well. You can send in part of your fodder, retain the score already earned, and return with more cards later. For a 10,000-point challenge, Bronze and Silver cards can be submitted now and the remaining total filled after you open more packs.
Duplicates in the 80 to 84 range are especially handy for steadily building points. Those cards drop from packs and rewards constantly, and they add up faster than piles of Bronze and Silver without demanding a premium card.
An unfinished, time-limited Streamlined SBC does not erase all progress when it expires. Your submitted score becomes a Partial Completion Reward pack tied to the tier reached: an Item Score from 1 to 500 gives a Bronze Pack, while 501 to 1,000 gives a Large Bronze Pack, with higher tiers providing stronger rewards. That return is usually worth less than the fodder used, so submit only cards you can accept losing when completion is doubtful.
When a minimum OVR still applies
Dropping chemistry and position rules doesn’t mean every card is eligible everywhere. Some Streamlined SBCs add their own conditions, such as requiring Gold items, a set number of players from one league, or a minimum rating on every submitted card. EA’s Player of the Month challenge, for example, sets a total Item Score target and a floor of 75 OVR on each item.
Other challenges carry no rating floor at all, leaving the score as the only thing you have to satisfy. The updated menu lists which cards qualify, so you don’t have to sort through your Club by hand. A minimum OVR cuts off the cheapest bulk solutions, and the best-value route depends on the target and current Transfer Market prices.
Special and Holographic cards score more
The scale above covers base items only. Special editions are worth more than a standard card at the same rating. A Team of the Week item or a Road to the Knockouts card beats a regular version with the same overall. Because these cards enter the game gradually through the season, their exact values aren’t fixed yet.
A card’s Holographic status increases its SBC contribution. It keeps the normal version’s attributes while supplying additional points, and those increases combine with other bonuses. Thus, a Team of the Week card that is also Holographic scores more than the standard TOTW card, the standard Holographic card, or the raw version. It also contributes to your Gallery score, so see whether using a rare card would unlock a Gallery grade before submitting it.
Which SBCs still use the traditional format
Traditional squad construction remains available. Most Player and Upgrade SBCs are expected to use Streamlined rules, but the more involved Challenge SBCs will still check chemistry, player positions, and squad-rating thresholds. Elite SBCs—including those that award a special player version—will also retain the classic format.
EA has also said the balance between the two formats can shift during FC 27 based on player feedback, so how often each type appears may move through the year.
Launch timing and the first Streamlined SBC
Console and PC players receive Streamlined SBCs on September 25, 2026, and the mobile Companion App gets the feature during Season 1. At release, the Intro to Streamlined SBCs objective group teaches the system’s mechanics.
For the opening Streamlined SBC, reach 20,000 points to claim the 83-rated Ones to Watch item from Ayyoub Bouaddi. The bar records each submission’s progress, and the reward appears as soon as the required score is reached.
The cost reality behind the convenience
The quality-of-life upgrades are real, but early Streamlined SBCs ask you to give up about as much as a comparable one-shot SBC, just without the extra objectives. Take that 20,000-point Bouaddi target. Ten 85-rated cards at 2,100 points each get you there, and you can only submit 30 players per challenge, which limits how far cheap bulk fodder can carry you. The idea that these SBCs slash the Ultimate Team grind isn’t quite bearing out yet, so unless the point values or targets are tuned, the effort still tracks closely with what the old format demanded.
