Feral Hunger Trophy Guide: How to Lose Control in The Blood of Dawnwalker

Drop your health below a single segment, then start a conversation and let the drain happen on its own.

Feral Hunger is one of the few trophies in The Blood of Dawnwalker that you cannot simply choose to do. The wording is short — lose control and drain someone outside of combat — but the important half is “lose control.” Coen has to take the blood on his own, without you pressing the button.

Quick answer: Play as the vampire knight, drop your health to less than one full health segment, then start a conversation with an NPC and wait. Coen will drain them automatically, and the trophy unlocks.

Feral Hunger trophy requirements

Feral Hunger is a Bronze trophy, and it counts toward the Every Last Drop Platinum. It is not tied to a specific quest, region, or story branch, so there is no missable window — you can set it up whenever you are in vampire form with an NPC nearby.

Why draining an NPC manually does not unlock Feral Hunger

Feeding on people is a normal part of playing Coen at night, and you will do it dozens of times over a playthrough. None of those count here. The game separates a drain you chose from a drain that happens to you, and only the second one satisfies the trophy.

That distinction is why players finish the game with Balanced Diet — drinking from 10 animals, humans, or monsters — while Feral Hunger stays locked. Draining ten NPCs on purpose does nothing for it. The trophy is checking for the moment where Coen’s hunger overrides the conversation and takes over.

How to trigger the loss of control

The whole setup is a health check. The lower Coen’s health, the closer he is to slipping, and the threshold is very low — you need to be under a single full segment of the health bar, not just generally hurt.

Switch to the vampire knight. The behaviour only fires in this form, so handle this at night rather than during the day.
Drop your health until less than one full health segment is left. Taking hits from a weak enemy is the easiest way to control the drop, since you can stop the moment the bar reaches the sliver you want.

Break away before you die and find a living NPC. Do not heal, and do not feed on anyone on the way — restoring blood undoes the state you just built.
Start a conversation with that NPC and let the dialogue play. Do not pick a feeding option. Coen loses control on his own and drains them mid-conversation, which is exactly the outcome the trophy is looking for.

Tip: save right before you talk to the NPC. If the drain does not happen, you can reload, shave off a bit more health, and try the same conversation again without hunting for a new target.

How to confirm it worked

Confirmation is immediate and hard to miss. The conversation cuts into a feeding animation you never selected, the NPC dies from it, and the Feral Hunger notification appears once the scene resolves. If the dialogue simply ends normally and you are still standing there talking, it did not fire.

Reasons Feral Hunger does not trigger

What went wrongFix
Health was low but not low enoughGet below one full health segment, not just below half the bar
You picked the drain option yourselfChoose nothing and let the conversation run
You were not in vampire formAttempt it at night as the vampire knight
You healed or fed on the way to the NPCGo straight from the fight to the conversation
The drain happened during combatLeave the fight first — it must be outside of combat

Killing a random villager mid-sentence is not free, so pick your target with that in mind. Coen’s reputation and the way people react to him respond to what he does in the world, and an unplanned killing is still a killing. If you would rather not risk it near people you still need, run the setup on an isolated NPC well away from anyone you care about, or reload the save you made a minute earlier once the trophy pops.
