Fisch: How to Catch the Fin Whale Migration Near Moosewood

The exact weather, bait, and rod capacity you need to land this Secret-rarity Ocean catch.

The exact weather, bait, and rod capacity you need to land this Secret-rarity Ocean catch.

The Fin Whale is one of the newest catches added to Fisch, arriving alongside Ollie the Otter companion. It does not show up during ordinary fishing. Instead, it appears only inside a migration event out in the Ocean, so the entire task comes down to forcing the right weather, spotting the migration lane, and carrying a rod strong enough to hold its enormous weight.

Quick answer: Force Rainy weather with a Tempest Totem, sail the Ocean around Moosewood until a blue highlighted square appears, drive into it, and fish with Krill using a rod that has a high Max Kg Capacity such as King’s Rod.

Fin Whale requirements in Fisch

The Fin Whale has a fixed set of conditions attached to it. The migration itself needs rain to spawn, while the whale’s own preferences favor foggy, daytime, winter weather. Getting the migration to appear is the part that actually locks the catch behind a wall.

Note: the fog, day, and winter values are the whale’s ideal preferences, which improve your odds. They are not what spawns the event. Rain is the actual trigger for the migration, so treat it as the priority and the rest as bonuses.

Trigger the Fin Whale migration with rain

The migration only begins while it is raining on your server. If the sky is clear, you do not have to wait for the weather to change on its own.

Use a Tempest Totem to force Rainy weather. Keep watching the Ocean once the rain sets in, since that is the condition the migration needs to start.

If the migration still has not appeared, cycle the weather by alternating a Clearcast Totem to clear the sky and a Tempest Totem to force rain again. You can also reset a private server to cycle the whale spawns.

You will know it worked when the on-screen message “Fin Whale Migration has begun” appears.

Find and catch the Fin Whale near Moosewood

With rain active and the migration started, sail out from Moosewood and patrol the surrounding Ocean. A fast mount or boat, such as a Jetski, helps you cover the water quickly.
Watch for a blue highlighted square marked with glowing chevron arrows on the water’s surface. That patch is the migration lane and your target zone.

Drive directly into the highlighted area, equip Krill as your bait, and cast your line inside the zone. Keep fishing there until the whale hooks.
Complete the reeling minigame. When you land it, the game confirms the catch with a message such as “You just caught a Fin Whale,” and a “Bestiary: New Catch!” notice registers it in your collection.

Bring a high Max Kg Capacity rod

The Fin Whale is a colossal catch that can weigh well over 100,000kg, so a rod with a high Max Kg Capacity is the single most important piece of gear. King’s Rod is a strong pick because it can carry that weight without failing the reel. Pairing it with luck-boosting bait or buffs raises your chances further, but a rod that holds the weight matters more than anything else.

If your reel keeps snapping or failing before the whale lands, an under-capacity rod is the usual cause. Swap to a higher-capacity rod before trying the migration again.

Is the Fin Whale worth catching?

For completionists, the Fin Whale is worth the effort. It is not tied to progression, so you can skip it if you only care about advancing. But adding rare and Secret fish to your Bestiary is a big part of what makes Fisch enjoyable, and this one is not among the harder catches to secure. As long as you carry a high Max Kg Capacity rod, fish with Krill, and stay patient enough to wait for the migration to appear, the Fin Whale will end up in your collection without much trouble.
