Fisch: How to Find Boreal Hollow and Catch the Goliath Siphonophore

The exact route through Northern Expedition, the hunt trigger, and the reel mechanics that make this Exotic catch tricky.

The exact route through Northern Expedition, the hunt trigger, and the reel mechanics that make this Exotic catch tricky.

The Goliath Siphonophore is an Exotic-tier fish in Fisch that only appears inside Boreal Hollow, a hidden cave on the Boreal Pines island in the Northern Expedition. Getting to it takes two steps most players miss: finding the concealed pool, then triggering the hunt through water disturbance before the fish will spawn at all.

Quick answer: Sail to Boreal Pines in the Northern Expedition, glide up the snowy cliffs to the glowing portal near the merchant and reinforced crab cages, enter Boreal Hollow, then fish the main pool to build disturbance until the Goliath Siphonophore hunt starts. Reel it in while managing the progress-bar freeze and resilience drop.

Route to Boreal Hollow in Fisch

Boreal Hollow sits behind the reinforced crab cage area on Boreal Pines. The entrance is a glowing portal set into the snowy cliffside, so it is easy to run past if you only fish the obvious open-water spots. The cave entrance can be found around GPS (21385, 249, 3816).

Start at the Moosewood dock and spawn a boat, such as the Peppermint-Ski, then set sail toward the Northern Expedition.

Dock at Boreal Pines and head up the snowy paths on foot and by glider, past the wooden cabins and pine trees. The merchant NPC is a useful landmark. Equipping the Winter Cloak or Winter Boots helps you move faster and avoid freezing while you climb.

Inside, you land in an icy cavern with glowing blue mushrooms, icicles, and a central fishing pool. That pool is where the hunt happens.

Trigger the Goliath Siphonophore hunt

The Goliath Siphonophore does not appear the moment you arrive. It spawns through a water disturbance that you build up by fishing the main pool. Keep casting until the disturbance grows enough to trigger the Exotic hunt.

A high-disturbance rod speeds this up. The Mutated Rod is a good choice for generating disturbance quickly. Once the hunt becomes active, that is your signal the fish is ready to hook, so switch to your strongest catching setup.

Prepare before you start. Once the hunt is live, you will want to commit to the fight rather than realize mid-catch that your gear is not ready.

How to catch the Goliath Siphonophore

After the disturbance triggers, hook the fish and switch to a high-luck rod. Your highest-level rod paired with high-luck bait gives the most consistent catch. Magnet is the preferred bait, and the fish’s preferred stats sit at 10% luck with resilience, lure, and speed all at 0%.

The fight is where this catch gets difficult. The Goliath Siphonophore has two mechanics that break a normal reel rhythm.

MechanicWhat it does
Progress bar freezeTemporarily stops your progress from building, interrupting your fill toward the catch.
Resilience reductionLowers your resilience mid-fight, making the fish harder to keep inside the catch zone.

When the bar freezes, do not assume you did something wrong. That pause is part of the fish. Stay focused on control and push progress every time the bar starts moving again. Because your resilience can drop, a strong rod alone will not carry the catch, so be patient rather than forcing it.

How you know it worked: A catch confirmation appears on screen, for example a message reading “You just caught a Big Fabulous Goliath Siphonophore!” with the weight and your total count.

Goliath Siphonophore stats and Bestiary entry

In the Bestiary, the Goliath Siphonophore is filed under the Astral Observatory category, even though you catch it in Boreal Hollow. The Astral Observatory is not a single spot but a collection of Astral pools spread across the map, and Boreal Hollow is one of them.

Boreal Hollow also holds several other Astral Observatory catches worth logging while you are there, including the Celestial Crab, Peacock Squid, Nebulous Comb Jelly, Starlit Seahorse, and the Mythical Boreal Man o’ War. Knowing the route and the disturbance trigger beforehand is the difference between a smooth run and a lot of wasted casts, so find the hidden pool first, build the disturbance, and only then settle in for the fight.
