Miso is a cat companion in Fisch that joins you after you feed it a wedge of Cheese inside Nate’s Cave. It arrived with Version 2.05, the Nate’s Quest update, which went live on October 10, 2026. Before the cat will eat anything, you have to clear the full Nate’s Quest line and bring Nate home.

Quick answer: Complete every step of Nate’s Quest, return to Nate’s Cave on Sunstone Island, pick up the Cheese, and hold [E] on Miso to feed it. The “Companion Unlocked: Miso” message confirms it.

What you need before feeding Miso

Miso only becomes a companion once the questline is finished and Nate has been rescued. Trying to feed it earlier does nothing, and the Cheese will not appear in the cave. Make sure these are true first.

  • Access to Sunstone Island, northeast of Moosewood.
  • Nate’s Quest completed in full, including the final showdown with Dr. It Fish.
  • Nate’s Blade reassembled and claimed during the quest.
  • Level 30 reached, which unlocks the Companion Satchel (press C to open it).

Reach Nate’s Cave on Sunstone Island

Nate’s Cave sits on Sunstone Island, and this is where both the quest and the cat live. Travel there across the Ocean with any watercraft, then work your way up the cliff.

Set out from the starting area and cross the Ocean toward Sunstone Island. A jet ski or any boat covers the distance quickly, and the island is marked with its own waypoint.

Complete Nate’s Quest

The questline begins when you talk to Miso in front of the table, beside the arcade machine, then solve the puzzle on Nate’s computer. It runs through six stages before Nate is freed. The order below is the sequence you work through.

StageObjective
The InvestigationTalk to Miso and solve the computer puzzle.
Restore Nate’s BladeFind a Crimson Centerpiece and a Broken Blade, then reassemble the blade.
Relive the TrailerPerfect Catch the required fish at Moosewood Docks, Roslit Volcano, and 20 Colossal Squid.
A Nostalgia TripClear every original fish, rod, title, boat, lantern, badge, weather, and enchant 21 times.
Find NateFind Nate’s Crown, Glasses, and Lantern, then break the wall with Nate’s Blade.
The Final ShowdownConfront Dr. It Fish and talk to Nate.

The Crimson Centerpiece is a Rare Find fished up in the Crimson Cavern, and the Broken Blade sits at the end of The Depths Maze, so both require those areas to already be open. The two pieces only drop while the Restore Nate’s Blade stage is active.

Enchanting 21 times during A Nostalgia Trip is the one task that does not depend on how “original” content is defined, so start chipping away at it early.

Grab the Cheese and feed Miso

After Nate is rescued, Cheese appears inside the cave. Collecting it and handing it to Miso is the final taming step.

Walk to the shelf behind the sofa and interact with the hidden spot in the corner. The prompt reads “Some cheese? I bet someone around here would love this…” and you pick up 6x Cheese.

Move next to Miso, who’s stretched out on the ground. With the Cheese in hand, the prompt “Hold [E] Feed Miso the Cheese!” appears.

How to confirm Miso is unlocked

Two on-screen messages confirm the tame worked: “Miso gobbled up your Cheese” and “Companion Unlocked: Miso.” Open the Companions menu afterward and Miso will show as a new entry in the index.

Equip Miso from the Companion Satchel before you head back out. Without it equipped, you will not get its fishing boosts on the water.

What Miso does once equipped

Miso has orange tabby fur, black eyes, white whiskers, and white fur on its chest and paws. Its abilities are geared toward faster reeling and better chances of rare catches.

  • Luck Aura raises Luck by 20% for you and nearby players.
  • Scratch grants a 3% progress speed boost.
  • When it activates, Chomp increases progress speed by 35%.

Because the Luck Aura reaches other players, keeping Miso out during group sessions spreads the bonus across your party. For long solo grinds after high-tier fish, the same aura adds up over time.
