Fisch: How to Get the Scavenger Rod From Dr. Crookspine

Every material, fishing spot, and rod setup needed to finish Dr. Crookspine's Errands and claim the free Scavenger Rod.

Every material, fishing spot, and rod setup needed to finish Dr. Crookspine’s Errands and claim the free Scavenger Rod.

The Scavenger Rod is a free reward handed out by Dr. Crookspine at the Laboratory, and it exists for one reason: pulling Rare Finds out of the water. Enchant Relics, Treasure Maps, Nukes, Rotted Seeds, and Threads all show up three times more often while you have it equipped, which makes it a specialist tool rather than a fish-catching upgrade.

Quick answer: Complete Dr. Crookspine’s Errands by obtaining 2 Silver Rusty Bolts, catching and returning 5 Scrap Metal, and obtaining 1 Lunar String, then hand the quest in at the Laboratory to receive the rod.

Dr. Crookspine’s Errands requirements

Three separate materials gate the rod, and each one lives in a different region with a different setup. Two of them need a mutation applied to a base item, which is where most players stall out.

MaterialWhere and how
2x Silver Rusty BoltMineshaft, using a Titanium Rod with Garbage Bait and Mutated Sharky equipped
5x Scrap MetalThe Depths during the day, any rod with Garbage Bait
1x Lunar StringDesolate Deep, using the Moonlit Rod with Mutated Sharky equipped

Note: For both the Silver Rusty Bolts and the Lunar String, a Mutation Totem plus appraising the item is a valid substitute if you do not have Mutated Sharky. You are rolling for the mutation either way, so expect a few attempts.

Collecting the three materials

Head to the Mineshaft with a Titanium Rod, Garbage Bait, and Mutated Sharky equipped, then fish until you have 2 Silver Rusty Bolts. Garbage Bait keeps junk items appearing, and the companion handles the Silver mutation for you.

Travel to The Depths during daytime hours and fish with Garbage Bait on any rod. You need 5 Scrap Metal here, and unlike the other two materials, no mutation is involved.
Move to Desolate Deep with the Moonlit Rod and Mutated Sharky and fish for 1 Lunar String. If the Lunar mutation refuses to roll, a Mutation Totem followed by an appraisal gets you the same result.
Return to Dr. Crookspine at the Laboratory with all three materials. The quest turn-in completes Dr. Crookspine’s Errands and the Scavenger Rod goes straight into your inventory at no cost.

Scavenger Rod stats and passive effects

The base numbers are respectable without being competitive with late-game rods. The 0.1 Control translates to a reeling bar that is 40 percent of the minigame width, and the 75,000 kg limit covers most catches you will run into while relic hunting.

StatValue
Lure Speed75%
Luck100%
Control0.1
Resilience20%
Max Kg75,000 kg
Line Distance50m
Scavenged mutation40% chance (3x)
Rare Finds3x chance

The Scavenged mutation triples a fish’s value when it lands, but the tripled Rare Finds rate is the actual draw. If you are farming Enchant Relics for altar sacrifices or hunting Treasure Maps, this rod does that job better than stronger rods that lack the passive.

Best enchants for the Scavenger Rod

Because the passive does the heavy lifting, enchants should patch the weak spots rather than chase raw power. Lure Speed and Resilience are the two stats worth pushing.

EnchantEffect and why it fits
Hasty+55% Lure Speed, taking the rod to 130%. The pick for fast relic farming.
Quality+20% Luck, +10% Resilience, +20% Lure Speed, +5% Progress Speed. Best all-round option.
Resilient+35% Resilience and +10% Fish Weight, easing the reeling minigame.
Unbreakable+10,000 Max Kg, +0.1 Control, +50 Durability. Doubles the control bar width.

Is the Scavenger Rod worth keeping?

Yes, mainly because it costs nothing beyond the quest itself. It will not replace an endgame rod for general fishing, and its 75% Lure Speed feels slow next to top-tier gear, but nothing else covers Rare Finds this efficiently. Players chasing Enchant Relics for temple unlocks or altar puzzles tend to keep it slotted permanently for that specific grind, swapping back to a stronger rod once the relics are banked.
