Tropical Squall is the weather event that gates a big chunk of Skycrest content in Fisch, from the Keeper of the Sky questline to taming the Idol Taiga companion. It does not roll in on its own schedule reliably enough to farm, which is why so many players get stuck on quest text that simply says to wait for or summon one. There are two ways to force it, and only one of them is instant.
Quick answer: Use a Tropical Squall Totem to trigger the event immediately. Without a totem, go to Abaia’s Chamber, offer fish to the Fire of Spirits until the meter hits 100 percent, then use a Sundial Totem to flip the day/night cycle and roll for the spawn.

Spawn Tropical Squall instantly with a totem
The totem route skips all randomness. Activating a Tropical Squall Totem starts the weather on the spot, no offerings and no cycle rolls involved. Totems can be picked up from Elder Kaito’s Shop on Skycrest or found on the island itself.
There is a second, separate item worth knowing about. The Raging Squall Totem triggers Raging Squall, the rarer version of the weather, and it is what you want if a quest specifically names that event instead. The two are not interchangeable, so check the quest text before burning either one.
Note: totems are consumable and the shop stock rotates, so plan around the quests you actually need the weather for rather than popping one to look around.

If you are out of totems, the Fire of Spirits is the free method. It costs fish instead of items, and it ends in a random roll rather than a guaranteed spawn, so budget a few attempts.

Tropical Squall Totem vs Fire of Spirits: Which to use
| Method | How it works |
|---|---|
| Tropical Squall Totem | Activate the totem for an immediate spawn. Consumes the item, no offerings needed. Sold at Elder Kaito’s Shop or found on Skycrest. |
| Raging Squall Totem | Triggers the rarer Raging Squall instead. Use only when a quest names that weather. |
| Fire of Spirits | Free but random. Offer fish or relics at Abaia’s Chamber to 100 percent, then change the day/night cycle to roll. Repeat rolls until it spawns. |
| Sundial Totem | Not a spawner. It flips the day/night cycle, which is what triggers each Fire of Spirits roll. |
How to confirm the Tropical Squall has started
You do not have to guess. When the weather triggers, a banner reading “SHIMMERING TROPICAL SQUALL” appears on screen, accompanied by a dark portal effect in the sky above the area. Any quest that was waiting on the weather will start tracking from that point.
Why Tropical Squall is not spawning
Two things account for almost every failed attempt. The first is an incomplete fire meter, since offerings below 100 percent will not produce a roll no matter how many times you change the cycle. The second is simple bad luck, because the Fire of Spirits route is chance based by design and one cycle flip is often not enough.
A third snag is item mix-up. Popping a Raging Squall Totem gives you Raging Squall, not Tropical Squall, and a Sundial Totem on its own does nothing except advance the clock.
What the Tropical Squall unlocks in Skycrest
The weather is a hard requirement for several pieces of Skycrest progression. Idol Taiga can only be tamed during a Tropical Squall, near the Ancient Idol statues and using the night-time firefly variants as feed. The extreme idol trials that hand out the Titanic Charm and Flash Charm are also locked behind Tropical Squall and Raging Squall.
The Fire of Spirits does double duty during the event as well. Sacrificing catches while the squall is active expands the flame, which raises luck and weather spawn rates for everyone nearby, and enough sacrifices eventually calls the Abaia Hunt.
If you are working through several squall-locked quests at once, the practical play is to line them up first. Get your fish, your fireflies, and your quest steps ready, then trigger the weather once and clear as much as you can before it passes.
