Looper’s essence is a glowing red pickup that drops from other players you eliminate during Chapter 7, season 4. It sits at step seven of the Geno: The Ultimate Reality questline, and collecting it powers up a new Override Console for Geno. The catch is simple but easy to miss: only human opponents drop it, and you have to physically grab each one off the ground.
Quick answer: Eliminate enemy players until you have collected eight Looper’s essence. After each kill, walk over the bright red flame marked with a diamond quest icon to pick it up. Progress carries across matches, so you do not need all eight in one round.

Only player eliminations drop Looper’s essence
The word “Looper” here means other players, not the island’s computer-controlled characters. That distinction is the single most common reason the step stalls out.
Taking down NPCs or bosses does nothing for this objective. You must knock out enemy players to make the essence appear. Every real opponent you eliminate is meant to leave essence behind until you reach the required total of eight.
How to spot and pick up the essence
The essence stacks toward the total across separate matches, so partial progress from one round is saved for the next.

Where to farm eliminations quickly
This is the most time-consuming stage of Geno’s questline because you are relying on fighting real players. Dropping into contested areas gives you far more chances than picking quiet, isolated fights.
- Reality’s Reign pulls in large numbers of players and often has a boss others are already fighting over, which creates easy openings.
- Extraction sites and Override Consoles reliably draw opponents, since players cluster around those resources.
- Flying out from a central point to hunt stragglers works when the immediate area goes quiet.
- Calling in an extraction pad near a busy zone can bait more players toward you for extra kills.
Note: essence drops are not always guaranteed on every single kill, so plan on eliminating a few more players than eight if the pickups come slowly.

If the essence isn’t dropping
The step can behave inconsistently. In some cases the essence refuses to appear on the first few eliminations, blocking any progress on the counter.
Keep eliminating players anyway. It tends to correct itself, with the essence eventually dropping and then continuing to spawn for every opponent you take down after that. If it stays stubborn, load into the next match and try again, which usually clears up the problem.
Confirming completion and what comes next
You know the step is done when the quest counter reaches eight out of eight essence collected. That advances you toward the final confrontation, where you find Geno floating in a red bubble above the center of the island, just west of Reality’s Reign.
With the essence secured, the remaining Geno objectives and side tasks like tracking down audio logs are all that stand between you and finishing the season’s main story arc.
