Protocol Droids are the one group in Droid Tycoon that you cannot buy, fuse, or pull off the conveyor belt. They only arrive as blueprints inside a Protocol Crate after a World Mission, and once built they behave unlike any other droid in your base. Placed correctly, a single one can multiply the credit output of an entire production line.
Quick answer: Complete a World Mission, which spawns roughly every 15 minutes, then return to base and open the Protocol Crate for a droid blueprint. Craft it, then place the finished droid at a station.
The full event rules for these droids, including missions, star ratings, crate rewards, and station assignment, are laid out in a post from the map’s creator.
The five Protocol Droids and what each one does
Four droids make up the rotating Protocol set, spread across rarities so even a weak mission run offers something worth chasing. C-3PO is classified separately as an Iconic Protocol Droid and stands apart from the rest, because it triples credit production instead of adding a flat bonus.

| Droid | Rarity | Key trait |
|---|---|---|
| TDA | Mythic | Top of the set, 2200% credit multiplier, highest chip cost |
| PZ | Legendary | Second tier, 2000% credit multiplier |
| LOM | Epic | Common early crate pull |
| SA-5 | Rare | Easiest to obtain, 400% credit multiplier |
| C-3PO | Iconic | x3 credit production, 2x droid sell value |
Each one shows up in the Droidex next to your regular collection, and each can climb the same seven tiers as any other droid, from Base through Gold, Diamond, Rainbow, Beskar, Galactic, and finally Stellar.

Droid Fusion only pushes droids up a tier. It does not create Protocol Droids, and pre-existing fusion droids cannot be upgraded with chips.

A World Mission becomes available about every 15 minutes and is flagged on your HUD. When one is live, leave the base, fly to the marker, and clear the objective. You keep every weapon and item unlocked from the Armory, so a heavier loadout shortens the combat missions.

Four mission types rotate. They all pay stars and mission points, but the pacing differs, so it helps to know which one you have drawn before committing.
| Mission | What you do |
|---|---|
| Eliminate Guards | Fight through Stormtroopers guarding the objective |
| Deliver Scrap | Use cranes to fish scrap from the water, then hand it in |
| Defense | Grab a weapon and hold a platform against waves of droids |
| Mine Rocks | Break rock nodes for a straight five minutes |
The mining run is the most predictable of the four. It is a flat five-minute timer against rock nodes, and with the 2x Pickaxe Level booster active your pickaxe breaks through them fast enough to make the full star payout routine.

Every mission is scored out of four stars, and the rating is not cosmetic. A higher star count pulls a higher-tier droid blueprint into your Protocol Crate, so a sloppy one-star clear and a clean four-star clear are not interchangeable. Equipping DJ R-3X as your companion adds a 2x World Mission Progress perk that speeds each run.
From mission to finished droid
If no crate is waiting at your base, the mission either was not completed or was not credited. Protocol Droids never appear on the conveyor belt and cannot be produced through fusion, so the crate is the only delivery method.
Where to place a Protocol Droid
Your base runs on three station groups, matching the three droid types: Worker, Astromech, and Battle. Protocol Droids work differently from your normal roster because their benefit depends on which kind of station you assign them to.
- Production stations raise credit generation for that station, shown as a Protocol Bonus line scaling from around +1.20/s on a low tier up to +8.40/s on a stronger droid.
- Crafting tables raise crafting speed for that table instead of income.
- Any Protocol Droid you are not using for income can be pulled out as a companion from the Companions screen, including parking it in the Lounge.
C-3PO is the exception you build around. Because it triples credit production, it belongs on your strongest production line rather than a crafting table, where the multiplier would be wasted.
Check the credit multiplier figure at the top of your base before and after a placement. Moving a strong droid onto the right station is the difference between readings like 2000% and 2200%, which is the fastest way to confirm the assignment registered.
Upgrading Protocol Droids to Stellar
Upgrades happen at the upgrade station and are paid for with upgrade chips. A LOM or SA-5 pulled at Default can be walked all the way up to Stellar one tier at a time, and income climbs at every step, with the sharpest gains near the top. Chip costs scale hard with rarity, which matters when deciding whether to push TDA or settle for a maxed PZ.
| Rarity | Chips per upgrade step |
|---|---|
| Common | 10, 25, 40, 80, 120, 180 |
| Legendary | 400, 1,200, 2,500, 6,000, 16,000, 24,000 |
| Mythic | 4,000, 8,000, 14,000, 30,000, 60,000, 90,000 |
Fully maxing a Mythic runs to roughly 206,000 chips, so a Mythic TDA is a long-term project rather than a single-session goal. The Rare and Epic droids are far cheaper and are where most players should spend chips first.
Verification is simple. Open the Droidex and check the tier label on the droid’s entry. If it reads Stellar, the upgrade took.

Mission points, Nova Crystals, and active boosters
Alongside blueprints, World Missions feed a separate mission points counter that tracks across runs. Reach 800 mission points and you are paid 3 Nova Crystals, the premium currency normally locked behind super-rebirths and spent on permanent account-wide upgrades in the Nova Shop.
Three boosters are active during the Protocol Droids window and all three stack with this loop: 2x Pickaxe Level, 2x Craft Speed, and 2x Credits. The pickaxe boost is what shortens mining missions, while the craft speed boost cuts the wait on every blueprint you pull from a crate.
The rhythm is straightforward. Run each World Mission as it spawns, clear it for as many of the four stars as you can, craft whatever blueprint the crate hands over, and pour chips into the Rare and Epic droids while saving for the Mythic. Droid Tycoon sits at island code 7865-8305-9184, and the droids you claim during the event stay in your Droidex afterward.
