The Sprite Locator is an Extraction Gizmo in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3 that pings the nearest buried Sprite Chest and marks it on your screen. The chest it reveals is private to you, so no one else in the match can see the marker or dig it up first. It is not floor loot and it is not sold anywhere, which is why getting one takes work.
Quick answer: Reach Mastery Rank on 17 different Sprites by leveling each to Level 5 and extracting it at max level. Clearing that threshold drops three Sprite Locators straight into your inventory, and they stay tied to your account until you use one.
Sprite Locator unlock requirements
The Sprite Locator sits on the Sprite Mastery reward track, so the only path to it is grinding Mastery. Mastering a Sprite is a two-part job that must happen in order. First you push a Sprite to Level 5, then you extract that Sprite at an Extraction Site while it is at max level. Only completing both steps banks the Mastery, and once it is banked it stays permanent even if you later lose that Sprite.
You need to do this for 17 different Sprites. When your 17th Sprite hits Mastery Rank, the reward pays out on its own and three Sprite Locators appear in your inventory. Those Locators cannot be stolen by other players, and they are only removed when you trigger a scan.

| Detail | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Unlock condition | Master 17 Sprites (Level 5 plus extraction each) |
| Reward | Three Sprite Locators added to inventory |
| Level shortcut | Quack Snacks give +1 Sprite level for 1,500 Gold |
| Storage | Bound to your account, not a single match |
| Consumed when | You trigger a scan in a match |
Speed up Sprite Mastery with Quack Snacks
Sprites normally level through opening chests, getting eliminations, and extracting, and a Sprite only gains levels while it is equipped in your dedicated Sprite slot. That grind is slow if you are new to the season.
Quack Snacks are the fastest shortcut. Each one instantly raises your equipped Sprite by one level and costs 1,500 Gold at a vending machine, though you can also find them as loot. Stacking a few in a single run can carry a Sprite to Level 5 well ahead of normal play. Just remember that leveling is only half of Mastery, so plan your route to reach an Extraction Site and extract the maxed Sprite before you die.
How to use the Sprite Locator in a match

How to keep the Sprite you dig up
Opening the buried chest does not lock in the reward. To add the Sprite to your permanent collection, you have to carry it to an Extraction Site, call in the crate, and survive the extraction. Until it clears extraction and shows up in your collection afterward, the Sprite is still at risk.
Elimination is the one thing that wastes a Locator. If you are knocked out after triggering the scan but before securing everything, you lose both the Sprite Locator and the Sprite from the chest. Because you only start with three charges, use one only when the area around you is clear enough to reach the dig spot and fight your way to extraction.
Higher chance at Sprite variants
The Sprite Locator has an increased chance of surfacing special Sprite variants rather than base Sprites, including Gold, Gummy, Galaxy, and Holofoil versions. That makes it especially useful during the weekly events when new variants rotate into the pool. If the hologram shows a special variant, prioritize digging it up and extracting it quickly.
Sprite Locator vs. Lucky Locator
These two Gizmos are easy to mix up, but they work differently. The Sprite Locator surfaces a random buried chest that could contain any Sprite, including a duplicate you already own, such as another Water Sprite. The Lucky Locator is a separate Gizmo that guarantees a Sprite you do not yet have, and it arrives later in the season.
| Gizmo | What it finds | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Sprite Locator | A private buried chest with any Sprite, variant chance boosted | Sprite Mastery reward now |
| Lucky Locator | A Sprite you do not already own | Arrives later this season |
For now, three Sprite Locators are your fastest way to a contested-free chest, so hold each charge for a moment when you can safely reach the dig and carry the Sprite to extraction. If you are only chasing that last missing collection entry, it can be worth waiting for the Lucky Locator instead of risking a duplicate.
