Fortnite: How to Get The Deer Sprite (Fortnitemares 2026)

The Deer Sprite is a Legendary Sprite that landed with the Fortnitemares update and the 99 Nights in the Forest crossover. Equip it and every melee hit lands harder, from your standard pickaxe to spooky melee weapons like Freddy’s Nightmare. The catch is the drop rate, which sits at a stingy 1.773% from eligible containers.

Quick answer: Smash Pumpkin Chests for a guaranteed Sprite, loot regular chests, and enter Halloween Cheat Codes. Legendary (orange) Cheat Codes give the best odds of pulling The Deer or its variants.

Where to find The Deer Sprite

The Deer Sprite is in the general loot pool, so it can surface from a few different sources during the event. Pumpkin Chests are the standout because they always hand you a Sprite when you break them open.

  • Pumpkin Chests: The glowing jack-o’-lantern chests scattered around the map guarantee a Sprite, making them your most reliable source.
  • Regular chests: Standard and rare chests at any point of interest can drop it, though the odds are lower per chest.
  • Halloween Cheat Codes: Enter the directional code on a Cheat Code panel. Legendary (orange) codes offer the highest chance for The Deer and its special variants.
  • Eliminations: Taking out opponents gives you a chance at new Sprites, and anything the fallen player was carrying becomes yours.
  • Trading: Since lost Sprites can be summoned again, a teammate or friend can trade you a spare Deer.

During Fortnitemares, some Cheat Codes appear corrupted and won’t work until you shoot or pickaxe them. Hit the panel first, then enter the code to claim the Sprite.

Best location to farm it

There is no single guaranteed spawn, since The Deer can roll from any eligible container across the island. For consistent hunting, drop into Nightmare Neighborhood, a new point of interest with a high density of stacked chests. Golden Grove, Chopped Shop, and Sunkern Shores are also solid secondary stops if you want to keep looting between zones.

How rare The Deer Sprite is

The Deer has a 1.773% chance to appear in eligible containers, matching the Vampire Sprite and placing it among the rarer Fortnitemares Sprites. Other variants don’t all follow that rate, and Trick or Treat isn’t available from launch because it is time-gated.

All six Deer Sprite variants

Six variants are available to collect. Each grants the usual melee boost and comes with an additional perk. Trick or Treat is the final recolor to become available, with its loot-pool debut set for October 8 at 9 AM ET.

VariantBonus effect
The DeerBase melee damage boost that scales with level
Gold The DeerBase boost plus 3x bonus XP from eliminations
Cheat Master The DeerBase boost, and every Cheat Code input counts as correct
Loot Hacker The DeerBase boost plus higher chance to spawn items from Loot Hacks
Bounty Hunter The DeerBase boost, finds Sprites from eliminations, gains XP only from kills at 2.5x
Trick or Treat The DeerBase boost that scales with level (arrives October 8)

Special variants can drop from all Cheat Codes, but Legendary ones give the best odds. The Bounty Hunter version has an extra trick, since eliminating players while you already have a Bounty Hunter Sprite equipped can drop additional copies.

What The Deer Sprite does and how to level it

With The Deer equipped, all of your melee damage goes up, and the bonus climbs every time the Sprite levels up during a match. That covers your pickaxe and any melee weapon in the pool, such as Freddy’s Nightmare. It plays like the earlier King Sprite, but with one key difference: the boost applies to every melee weapon, not just the pickaxe.

LevelMelee damage
Level 122 DMG
Level 223 DMG
Level 325 DMG
Level 428 DMG
Level 530 DMG

You earn Sprite XP through the usual means, including opening containers, extracting duplicate Sprites, and getting eliminations. The Bounty Hunter variant is the exception, since it only gains XP from eliminations, though each kill is worth 2.5x more.

Confirming you unlocked it

Once The Deer drops, it appears in your in-match Sprite loadout and your melee damage reflects the boost immediately. To keep it permanently, extract it at an Extraction Site before the match ends. After extraction, the Sprite shows as collected in the Override Sprites menu and can be summoned in future matches even if you lose it. Fortnitemares runs for a limited window, so prioritize Pumpkin Chests and Cheat Codes at Nightmare Neighborhood each drop if you want all six variants before the event wraps.
