Earn 800,000 XP on horror Creator-made islands with a friend to claim all five free Fortnitemares cosmetics before November 12.

The Safety in Numbers quest line is Fortnitemares 2026’s free cosmetic track, and it comes with a catch that trips up most players: the quests simply do not appear in your log while you are queued for Battle Royale or any standard Epic-made mode. They only surface once a horror map built in Creative is selected, which is why a lot of people assume the event skipped their account entirely.

Quick answer: In Discover, choose a map listed under Horror and go to Quests; while partying with one or more friends, collect 800,000 XP on horror Creator-made islands. Reaching that total completes the 10 stages and grants all rewards.

Every Safety in Numbers reward and its milestone

There are five cosmetics in the chain, each tied to how many quests you have finished. Because a reward lands at every second quest, the full set arrives at the 10th and final stage.

How the quest line works

Safety in Numbers is one objective with 10 repeatable stages. For each stage, gain 80,000 XP on horror Creator-made islands with a friend in your party; finishing a stage also awards 10,000 XP toward your account level and Battle Pass. Complete all 10 to accumulate 800,000 XP altogether.

Only XP earned inside eligible Creative experiences counts. Playing Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, Horde Rush, or OG does nothing for this track, no matter how much XP those modes pay out. Knocking out Daily and Weekly Creative quests on the same island stacks extra XP on top of what you earn from rounds, which speeds the grind along.

How to find and start the quests

In Fortnite’s main lobby, select Discover and scroll to the Horror game category. Safety in Numbers quests are linked to this category and won’t appear until a horror map is loaded as your current experience.
Choose a Creator-made island from the Horror row and enter Quests. You should see Safety in Numbers, including its progress bar and target for the current stage. If it is missing, return to the previous screen and make sure a horror map—not Battle Royale—is selected.
Bring a friend into your party before launching. Progress counts only when another player is in your party, meaning a solo queue will not advance the quest, even on the right map.

Launch the island and play the rounds or tasks. On a map like Murder Mystery that means working through roles, surviving rounds, and collecting coins, each of which feeds XP into the current stage.

Repeat on horror maps until all 10 stages are done. You can stay on one island or hop between several, since the XP pools together regardless of which eligible map you earn it on.

Switching maps between stages keeps the grind from getting stale. After a session of Murder Mystery, searching Discover for something like FNAF – Night Shift Survival lets you chase the same XP in a completely different mode.

Horror island codes that qualify

Any map listed under the Horror category in Discover counts, but jumping straight to a known code saves time. These islands are confirmed eligible for Safety in Numbers XP.

Some horror islands throw in-game Marketplace prompts that try to sell V-Bucks items. Those are separate purchases and have nothing to do with the free quest rewards, so there is no need to buy anything to make progress.

Playing without an active friend

The party requirement does not demand a full squad. One other player in your party is enough for the XP to register. If none of your friends are online, you can sign a second personal account into a party on another device or console, or team up with another player looking for a partner.

Once someone is in your party and you load a horror island, the quest behaves exactly as it does with a regular friend. The XP counts the same way regardless of who the second player is.

How to confirm it is working and the deadline

Check the Quests tab after a match. A working stage shows a filling progress bar counting toward 80,000, for example sitting at 29,210 of 80,000 partway through Stage 1. When a stage caps out, the counter rolls over to the next stage out of 10 and the matching reward appears in your locker if you have hit a milestone.

A filling bar like this one, at 29,210 of 80,000, confirms your XP is counting toward the active stage. Shown at 08:21 in NOOB NOOB FRUIT’s video. Image: Epic Games

If the bar stays frozen at zero after a full match, one of the conditions is off: you were on a non-horror map, you were not in a party, or the XP came from Battle Royale rather than a Creative island. Fix whichever applies and the counter resumes on the next round.

The quests remain in the game until November 12, 2026, so there is a clear window to clear all 10 stages. Anything left unfinished when the event closes disappears, though these cosmetics may resurface as paid Item Shop entries later on.
