Master 28 sprites before Page 3 of the Sprites Mastery Rewards arrives on September 17th to claim the back bling instantly.

The Pixel Sprite Trainer is the back bling built for people who have been grinding sprites all season in Chapter 7 Season 4: Override. Instead of a floating pod, it puts your mastered sprites on a retro handheld console screen in chunky pixel art, and you pick which one is on display. It is not a shop item, and it is not a battle pass reward — it comes from the Sprites Mastery Rewards track, and the requirement is set high enough that you need to start mastering sprites now rather than on release day.

Quick answer: Master at least 28 sprites before Page 3 of the Sprites Mastery Rewards goes live on Thursday, September 17th, 2026, and the Pixel Sprite Trainer back bling unlocks for you the moment that page opens.

Pixel Sprite Trainer unlock requirements and release date

The back bling sits on Page 3 of the mastery track, which is not yet available. Mastered sprites you bank before that date still count, so nothing is wasted by working ahead of the release.

To see where you stand, open the Sprites section of the lobby menu and move to the Mastery tab. The counter there tracks how many sprites you have permanently mastered against what the current page asks for, alongside the other level rewards on the track.

How to master sprites to reach 28

Mastering a sprite means taking it from Level 1 to Level 5. Once it hits Level 5 the mastery is permanent, and you can move on to the next one. Sprites only earn XP while they are equipped, so the whole process is a loop of equip, play, level, swap.

Open the Sprites menu and equip a sprite that is still at Level 1. Anything already mastered is finished and gains you nothing, so always pick the lowest-level sprite you want to bank next.

Drop into a Battle Royale match with that sprite equipped. Any core mode works, and Zero Build Solo is the low-friction option if you just want quick, repeatable runs.

Feed the sprite XP during the match. Eliminating players, opening chests and other containers, and extracting additional sprites all push the level bar up, so a looting-heavy route pays off more than sitting still.
Clear the sprite’s own challenge if it has one. Certain sprites will not finish their climb on generic XP alone and need a specific action before they will tick over.
Get the sprite to Level 5, then swap in the next one. The mastery is locked in permanently at that point and the mastered counter on the Mastery tab goes up by one.

Sprite-specific mastery conditions

A handful of sprites tie their progress to a set task rather than raw XP. These are the ones that most often stall a run.

Use Mastery Mondays for double sprite leveling

Mastery Mondays is the fastest window to close the gap to 28. During the event, sprites level up at double speed and sprite dust drops at double rate, which means fewer matches per mastery and a faster stockpile of dust on the side. If you are behind on the count, save your unmastered sprites for that window rather than burning through them on a normal weekday.

Note: with the mastery track’s Page 3 landing on September 17th, there is a limited number of these windows left before the deadline. Twenty-eight is a meaningful grind from a standing start.

How the back bling displays your sprites

The Pixel Sprite Trainer works the same way the Sprite Mastery Pod did in Season 3: Runners. Every sprite you have mastered becomes a selectable style on the item, and you choose which one appears on the handheld screen from the Locker. The difference is presentation — the Pod showed the sprite as-is, while the Trainer renders it in a retro pixelated style on a console display.

One caveat carried over from the Pod: not every sprite in the game is available as a back bling style. Mastering a sprite guarantees it counts toward the 28 total, but it does not guarantee that specific sprite can be put on the screen.

Sprites you collected in Season 3 have not been erased either. They live on in the Sprite Garden, remain on your Sprite Collection page next to the new generation, and stay unlocked as styles on the Sprite Mastery Pod back bling.

Why your mastery count is not going up

If the number on the Mastery tab is not moving, it is almost always one of these:

  • The sprite was not equipped when you queued, so it earned no XP during the match.
  • The sprite is at Level 4 or below. Only Level 5 counts as mastered.
  • The sprite has an unmet challenge, such as a required win or a specific in-match action.
  • You are recounting sprites that were already mastered. Each sprite adds to the total once.

Assuming you clear 28, there is nothing to claim manually and no quest to hand in. When Page 3 of the Sprites Mastery Rewards opens on the 17th, the Pixel Sprite Trainer appears in your Locker straight away, and every sprite you have mastered by then is sitting there as a style ready to load onto the screen.
