To Gaze Upon the Dreaming Pale Crown is the opening chapter of the On One Side a Palace, On the Other a Tomb quest chain in Genshin Impact 7.0. It sends the Traveler into the frozen north of Snezhnaya to recover the final fragment of the Eye of Graeae, following his directions past a deadly blizzard toward the Tsar’s tomb.
Quick answer: Talk to the Eye of Graeae at the Central Station train, follow him into the White Birch Snowgrave, clear the Prime Ice blocking the trail, summon and board the hidden train, investigate the strange space, complete the potion experiment to escape the sealed room, feed the cat to open the door, climb to the second floor, then unlock the Teleport Waypoint at the Pale Crown Palace to end the quest.
How to unlock the quest
The quest becomes available once you can board the train in the Great Deeds on the Tundra Archon Quest, which lines up with finishing the In the Dwelling of Life series. After that, head to the Eye of Graeae inside his train carriage at the Central Station and speak to him to begin.
The route itself starts at Pilgrimage to the Sacred Gorge in the northeastern part of Snezhnaya. There is no shortcut into the northern map. The storm and cold will kill your party outright, so following the Eye of Graeae is the only way through.
Follow the Eye of Graeae into the White Birch Snowgrave region and keep to the quest marker. Unlock any Teleport Waypoints you pass so you can fast-travel back later.
When a large block of ice seals the trail, grab a nearby Basic Heat Source and use it to melt the barrier. The interaction prompt appears when you get close to the glowing source.
For larger obstructions, open the Prime Ice Construct menu and choose Remove to clear the blockade. Keep pushing forward through the icy cave as the objective updates to finding a path into the mountains.
Continue advancing into the snowstorm along the route until you reach the Statue of the Seven. Interacting with it lets you catch your breath, and the mission changes to finding the mechanism for the “hidden tracks.”
From the Statue of the Seven, follow the Seelie floating beside it. If no Seelie appears, simply climb the stairs past the statue to reach the upper floor.
Claim the Precious Chest near the console, then select Place to set down the Eye of Graeae. This summons the train that carries you to the Pale Crown Palace.
When the train arrives, glide down to the station and board it. Choose Sit so the Eye of Graeae or the Goggles can start the vehicle. You are then pulled into a strange space alongside two figures, Izmaylov and Azazel, who are talking about the newly appointed Tsaritsa.
Follow the marker to the next room and use the Snegovik Laboratory Key on the door. Inside, investigate the Prime Ice on the table to shatter it and reveal someone’s notes.
Read the note. A faint meow will sound from the other side of the room. Walk to the mountain painting on the wall and shake it hard twice until the frame falls and exposes a hidden passage.
Place any three items on the scale. There is no wrong combination, since the Traveler works out the answer on their own. Keep placing items until the revelation triggers.
Watch the cutscene as the items mix as the formula intended and the pointer falls off. You then receive the key, claim the Precious Chest, and can leave the room.
Note: Because any three items lead to the same result, do not waste time hunting for a specific pairing.
At the gate you meet Vsevolod behind the door. Place the Cat Food in the bowl next to the staircase. The cat knocks a potion bottle off the table, startling Vsevolod into rushing over and opening the door.
Head to the second floor and go up the stairs until a familiar female voice starts a cutscene. This reveals a flashback of Aksinya speaking with the Eye of Graeae, after which you wake back on the train with Paimon and the Goggles.
Once the train reaches its destination, step off at the snow-covered Pale Crown Palace. Run up the flights of stairs and unlock the Teleport Waypoint.
Reaching that waypoint ends To Gaze Upon the Dreaming Pale Crown and immediately begins The Stone Beasts, Like Ghouls Seated, the next quest in the chain.

With the palace waypoint active and the fragment trail set up, you are ready to push into the Pale Crown Palace itself and recover the last piece of the Eye of Graeae in the quest that follows.
