Gifting Cars in Forza Horizon 6 (Gift Drop and Auction House)

How the random Gift Drop system works and the Auction House trick that hands a car to a specific friend.

How the random Gift Drop system works and the Auction House trick that hands a car to a specific friend.

Forza Horizon 6 lets you pass cars to other players, but it does not work the way most people expect. There is no button that drops a vehicle straight into a friend’s garage. Instead, the game splits car gifting into two separate ideas. One is a built-in Gift Drop system that sends a spare car to a random player, and the other is a timing trick through the Auction House that gets a specific friend the car you want them to have.

Quick answer: Use Gift Drop at a barn find to send a duplicate car to a random player you cannot choose. To get a car to one specific friend, list it on the Auction House at the lowest buyout price and have them buy it the instant it appears.

Gift Drop in Forza Horizon 6 (random recipients only)

Gift Drop is the official gifting feature, and it is tied to barn finds. As you play, the game points you toward hidden barns scattered across the map, each holding a special car. After you locate a barn and the discovery cutscene finishes, a prompt appears asking if you want to gift another player a car you already own.

The key limitation is that you do not pick the person who receives the car. You only narrow down the type of player it goes to. Once you accept, you select a car from your garage, choose a recipient category, attach a message, and decide whether your name or gamertag is shown on the gift. The car then lands with a random player who fits the category you picked.

The recipient categories you can choose from are listed below.

CategoryWho receives the gift
AnyoneAny random player in the community
New PlayersPlayers new to the game
New Horizon LegendsPlayers who recently reached Legend status
Returning PlayersPlayers coming back to the series
Community ContributorsPlayers recognized for contributing to the community

If you have already cleared every barn you need, you do not lose access to the feature. Return to any barn you have previously discovered and it converts into a Gift Drop point, so you can keep handing out spare cars whenever you like.

Note: Because the recipient is always randomized, Gift Drop is not the tool to use when someone asks you for a specific car. Those requests cannot be fulfilled through this system.

Send a car to a specific friend using the Auction House

To get a car to one named friend, the Auction House is the only working route. It is technically a sale rather than a true gift, since your friend still pays Credits, but you can drop the price so low that it functions like a handoff. The catch is that the Auction House is public, so anyone browsing can buy the listing before your friend does. Speed and coordination decide whether it works.

Agree on the exact car and a price before you start. Both of you should be connected in the game and on a voice call or text chat so you can react in real time.
Have your friend set up their search filters in advance. They should pre-load the manufacturer and model so the listing surfaces the moment it goes live.

List the car and set both the bid and buyout price as low as the game allows. The lower the price, the easier it is for your friend to grab, but it also looks more tempting to strangers.

Tell your friend to search immediately. If many copies of the car are listed, they can scan the seller details and scroll until they spot your name and profile picture, then hit Buyout without hesitating.

How to know the transfer worked, and why it can fail

The handoff succeeds when your friend completes the Buyout and the car appears in their garage. If it does not, the most common reason is a stranger sniping the listing first. A cheap buyout attracts other players who constantly refresh the Auction House for deals, and even a few seconds of delay can lose the car.

Before listing, make sure the receiving player already has enough Credits on hand. There is no time to earn money once the auction is live. If someone else buys it first, simply relist and try again, keeping in mind that the same public risk applies every time the car goes back up.

Between the two, treat Gift Drop as the way to share spare cars with the wider community and the Auction House as the only reliable path to a specific person. Keep the price low, line up the filters ahead of time, and move fast, and a duplicate sitting in your garage can end up exactly where you want it.
