Gmail app now optimized for iPhone XS and XS Max, enables group notifications by account

The Gmail app for iOS devices is receiving an update today to version 5.0.180921 with optimizations for iOS 12, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max devices. The update changelog also mentions “Enable keyboard shortcuts for iPad devices,” but that has been around for a while.

Anyway, if you noticed the graphical glitch on your new iPhone XS Max while using Gmail, this update fixes the problem. Also for iOS 12 running devices, the Gmail app now automatically groups notifications by account.
