Weapon Transcendence is the system that finally lets you tune the Traits on a weapon in Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok. Once a weapon is transcended, two of its four Trait slots stop being locked and can be traded out for other options drawn from that weapon type’s own pool. The catch is that you cannot open the swap menu until the weapon has been transcended at least once.
Quick answer: Transcend the weapon first, equip it, then open the Equipment menu and press the “Swap Traits” prompt (R3 or L3 on a controller, shown as a small tooltip right beneath the weapon). Highlight a swappable slot and pick a new Trait from that weapon type’s pool.

What you need before you can swap traits
Trait swapping only becomes available after a weapon goes through Weapon Transcendence. Transcendence works much like Awakening, consuming materials you earn from the new Fatebeaker-grade quests and the Conflux roguelite mode, and each level makes the weapon stronger.
The first time you transcend a weapon it gains a Trait exclusive to its type. A Defender Weapon, for example, picks up the DMG Cap Ecru Trait that only Defender Weapons get. Transcending also unlocks extra stat nodes in the Weapon Collection tab on the Masteries screen.
Note: A handful of characters do not have every weapon type. Seofon (Siete), Tweyen (Song), Sandalphon, Fraux, Fediel, Gallanza, and Maglielle have no access to Executioner and Stunner weapons, so those trait pools will not apply to them.

Which slots can be swapped and how the levels work
A transcended weapon has four Trait slots plus a fifth EX slot. Some slots are permanently fixed, and the Traits sitting in each slot level up automatically as you push Transcendence higher. For most weapons, Slot II and Slot IV are the two that can be swapped, but this varies by type.
Slot placement matters because the two swap slots cap out at different levels. A Trait in Slot II can reach level 25, while the same Trait in Slot IV maxes at level 10. Put your highest-value Trait in Slot II to get the bigger bonus, so an HP Trait in Slot II grants more HP than it would in Slot IV.
Once a weapon reaches Transcendence Max Lvl 7, a new Slot EX unlocks with a fully leveled Trait already attached. A fully transcended weapon also gains a cosmetic visual effect that changes its look only and has no effect on stats.
Slot layout by weapon type at Transcendence Max Lvl
| Weapon Type | Swappable Slots | Fixed Slots |
|---|---|---|
| Defender | Slot II (Lvl 25), Slot IV (Lvl 10) | Slot I HP, Slot III DMG Cap Ecru, Slot EX Unbound Exertion |
| Ascension | Slot II (Lvl 25) only; Slot III chooses Supernova or DMG Cap | Slot I ATK, Slot IV Sigil Booster, Slot EX Unbound Strike |
| Executioner | Slot II (Lvl 25), Slot IV (Lvl 10) | Slot I Weak Point DMG, Slot III DMG Cap Cardinal, Slot EX Unbound Technique |
| Stinger | Slot II (Lvl 25), Slot IV (Lvl 10) | Slot I Critical Hit Rate, Slot III DMG Cap Cobalt, Slot EX Unbound Technique |
| Stunner | Slot II (Lvl 25), Slot IV (Lvl 10) | Slot I Stun Power, Slot III DMG Cap Sage, Slot EX Unbound Exertion |
| Terminus | Slot II (Lvl 25) only | Slot I Catastrophe Nova, Slot III DMG Cap, Slot IV Sigil Booster, Slot EX Unbound Master |
Ascension and Terminus weapons only open Slot II for swapping. On Ascension weapons, Slot III is a two-way choice between Supernova and DMG Cap. The Unbound Master Trait on Terminus weapons scales up to level 55 depending on that character’s current Master Lvl.

Full swappable trait pool for every weapon type
Each weapon type pulls from its own pool, and for the types with two swap slots, you cannot place the same Trait in both slots at once. A few Traits are also restricted to Slot IV only, noted below.
| Weapon Type | Swappable Traits |
|---|---|
| Defender | Greater Aegis, Regen, Garrison, Stronghold, Improved Guard, Dizzy Resistance, Poison Resistance, Burn Resistance, Blight Resistance |
| Ascension (Slot II) | HP, Critical Hit Rate, Stun Power, Linked Together, Supplementary DMG, Combo Finisher DMG, Drain, Precise Wrath, Precise Resilience |
| Executioner | Break Assassin, Quick Cooldown, Cascade, Uplift, Nimble Onslaught, Glaciate Resistance, ATK↓ Resistance, DEF↓ Resistance, Autorevive (Slot IV only) |
| Stinger | Critical Hit DMG, Life on the Line, Overdrive Assassin, Dodge Payback, Firm Stance, Slow Resistance, Skill Sealed Resistance, Darkflame Resistance, Guts (Slot IV only) |
| Stunner | Stamina, Linked Together, Guard Payback, Aegis, Held Under Resistance, Sandtomb Resistance, Paralysis Resistance, SBA Sealed Resistance, Potion Hoarder (Slot IV only) |
| Terminus (Slot II) | Enmity, Stamina, Tyranny, Combo Booster, Overdrive Assassin, Guard Payback, Glass Cannon, Regen, Drain, Nimble Defense |
Confirming the swap worked and common mistakes
You know the swap took hold when the new Trait shows in the slot you selected and starts scaling to that slot’s cap, level 25 in Slot II or level 10 in Slot IV. If nothing changed, one of these is usually the reason:
- The weapon has not been transcended yet, so no swap prompt appears at all.
- You tried to place a Trait that is already sitting in the other swap slot; duplicates across the two slots are not allowed.
- You tried to put a Slot IV-only Trait such as Autorevive, Guts, or Potion Hoarder into Slot II, which the game blocks.
- You were looking at a fixed slot. Only the slots marked swappable for that weapon type can be edited.
Because the swap menu is always available on a transcended weapon, you can rework a weapon’s Traits as often as you like to match a build. Keep the strongest option in Slot II for the higher level cap, and use Slot IV for a secondary Trait or a resistance you want to shore up.
