The rowboat you pick up in Anchor Town gets you across the early water, but it has no weapons, no customization, and no way to park it. The larger vessel fixes all three, and it is sold in one place only.
Quick answer: Sail to Maple Village, find the ship dealer Mary at the Marine Dealership, and buy the larger vessel with money saved from quests. You cannot buy it on any earlier island.
Requirements before you buy the bigger ship
Three things gate the purchase: island access, a boat to get there, and enough money in your pocket. Nothing else about your build matters here.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Island | Maple Village on Maple Island, reached from Clown Town’s port |
| Level range | Maple Village is the level 70+ stage of the main route |
| Starter vessel | The Rowboat from Anchor Town’s Boat Shop, unlocked by “Setting Sail” at level 30 |
| Seller | Mary, at the Marine Dealership in Maple Village |
| Currency | Standard in-game money, earned from quests |
There is no reason to rush the upgrade. The starter boat handles every crossing on the early route, so treat the bigger ship as something you buy once Maple Village is already open to you rather than a goal you grind toward at level 30.

Saving money for the purchase
Quests are the reliable income source. Repeatable quests on each island pay out every time you turn them in, and Maple Village has its own repeatables from Gus and Nell alongside the main story rewards.
The mistake that stalls most players is spending on gear they will replace anyway. Skip mid-tier swords and cosmetic buys while you are banking for the ship, and hold onto Celestial Coins for Fruit Chests instead of converting your progress into short-term upgrades.

Buying the ship from Mary
Note: if the option is greyed out or the purchase fails, it is almost always money. Grind another round of repeatables and come back rather than hunting for a second seller.
What the bigger ship adds
The upgrade is not just a bigger hull. It brings three functional systems the rowboat does not have.
| Feature | How it works |
|---|---|
| Mounted cannons | Climb onto a cannon to aim it manually and fire at targets on the water |
| Anchor | Hold E while steering to drop it and bring the ship to a stop |
| Customization | The larger vessels support appearance options the starter boat does not |
The anchor is the one worth learning early. Without it, a ship left drifting will wander off while you are on land, and holding the interact key is the only way to lock it in place where you docked.

Grand Blue is still in Early Access, so ship stock and prices at the Marine Dealership can shift between updates. If the vessel list looks different from what you expected, check Mary’s dialogue again after a patch rather than assuming the upgrade moved elsewhere.
