Graveyard Keeper 2: How to Repair the Kitchen and Cook Food

Fix the broken oven and kitchen table, stock fuel, and start cooking meals that restore far more energy than berries.

Fix the broken oven and kitchen table, stock fuel, and start cooking meals that restore far more energy than berries.

Almost everything you do in Graveyard Keeper 2 drains your energy bar, from mining stone to chopping trees to running autopsies. Sleeping refills it, but hiking back to bed in the middle of a work day wastes hours. Cooked food fixes that by letting you top up energy in the field, and it restores far more than foraged berries or bought snacks. Before you can cook anything, though, you have to rebuild the kitchen inside the Keeper’s house.

Quick answer: Repair the Broken Oven with 2 Pieces of Stone and the Broken Kitchen Table with 6 Wooden Planks, both on the left side of your house, then keep the oven supplied with Fuel to start cooking.

Repair the oven and kitchen table

Walk into your house and look to the left. The Broken Oven and Broken Kitchen Table sit against that wall, and both are unusable until you repair them. Each station needs a different material, so gather both before you interact with them.

Once both are fixed, they handle different jobs. The kitchen table prepares cold dishes and slices raw meat or fish before it goes to heat. The oven cooks hot meals and turns raw meat and fish into finished food.

How to get Pieces of Stone for the oven

Mine Stone by using your pickaxe on the boulders scattered around the world.
Make Wood Wedges at a Chopping Spot. Chop down a tree, then interact with the leftover stump to dig it out for a Short Log. One Short Log produces 10 Wood Wedges, which is more than enough here.
Craft the Pieces of Stone at the Stonemason’s Workbench. Each piece costs 2 Stone and 4 Wood Wedges, so the two you need for the oven use 2 Stone and 4 Wood Wedges total.

How to get Wooden Planks for the kitchen table

Chop down trees to collect Logs.
Turn those Logs into Boards at the Sawhorse.
Craft Wooden Planks at Woodworking Workbench I. The ratio is one to one, so 6 Boards give you the 6 Wooden Planks the kitchen table needs.

Wood feeds a lot of early crafting stations and yard upgrades, so keep a reserve of Logs instead of spending every one the moment you gather it.

Set up Fuel so the oven works

The kitchen table runs on nothing but ingredients, but every oven recipe consumes Fuel. Unlock more recipes and you can still be stuck unable to cook them without a steady Fuel supply, so build this out right after the repairs.

Craft a Firewood Shed from the blueprint on the wall just left of your bed. It costs 10 Sticks and 2 Bronze Nails. Sticks drop automatically when you chop trees or clear weeds and thorns, while Bronze Nails come from breaking barrels and trash piles in your yard.
Make Firewood at a Chopping Spot. One Short Log yields 10 Firewood, and 20 Sticks work as an alternative.
Place the Firewood into the shed and convert it into Fuel. Two pieces of Firewood produce 20 Fuel.

The indoor Firewood Shed only feeds your oven. Your outdoor furnace and kiln need a separate shed placed in the yard, and both sheds have to be kept stocked on their own.

How to cook and confirm it worked

With both stations repaired and Fuel loaded, interact with the kitchen table to prep ingredients or make cold dishes, then move heat-based recipes to the oven. A simple first meal is Bread. Grow Wheat in your garden, draw Water from the Well, combine them into Dough, and bake the Dough in the oven.

You know the setup is working when the station accepts your ingredients, spends Fuel on oven recipes, and drops the finished food into your inventory ready to eat. Bread is worth batch cooking because its ingredients renew through farming, and cooking dishes in bulk also counts toward the Master Chef achievement, which asks you to prepare 100 dishes.

Unlock more food recipes

Fixing the kitchen does not hand you every dish. New recipes open up as you progress, either bought from vendors or handed over by NPCs as quest rewards. Herm, the merchant in the village, is an early example: bring him the fish he wants and work through his objectives to unlock Baked Fish and other fish recipes. Your cookbook keeps growing as you find new ingredients and finish NPC questlines, letting you swap basic berries for meals that restore far more energy in the field.
