Graveyard Keeper: How to Build the Wooden Bartender for Your Tavern

The Barman Doll recipe, where to craft it, and how to confirm the tavern is staffed.

The Barman Doll recipe, where to craft it, and how to confirm the tavern is staffed.

The wooden bartender in Graveyard Keeper is an item called the Barman Doll, and it exists for one reason: the Talking Skull tavern cannot sell anything until something is standing behind the bar. Gerry hands you the task once the tavern has been built, and the recipe sits in a workstation you may already own without realizing it.

Quick answer: Craft the Barman Doll at the Carpenter’s workbench II in your workyard using 4 Wooden planks, 4 Complex iron parts, and 2 Wooden beams, then place it behind the tavern’s bar counter.

Barman Doll recipe and materials

The doll is a Stranger Sins quest item with a stack size of 1. Both tiers of the carpenter’s workbench can produce it, and the only difference between them is energy cost.

Crafting at the Carpenter’s workbench II costs 25 energy, while the basic Carpenter’s workbench costs 30. The upgraded bench also pays out +25 blue research points when the doll is finished, so it is worth the short walk if you already have the tier II version standing in your workyard.

The workbench inside the tavern will not build the doll. The recipe lives on the carpenter’s workbench in your workyard, which is the only place that station can be built.

Crafting the doll at the Carpenter’s workbench II

Return to the workyard and walk over to the Carpenter’s workbench II. It sits among your wood stations, and a yellow outline appears around it when you are close enough to interact.

Open the bench menu and scroll the recipe list past entries such as Wooden plank, Jointing, and Wood repair kit until you reach Barman doll. Select it and confirm the craft.
Watch for the blue points popup. A +25 indicator confirms the doll was produced rather than a failed craft from missing materials.
The finished doll drops onto the ground next to the bench instead of going into your inventory. Press the interact key to pick it up. Your character carries it over their head from that point on.

Carrying the doll to The Talking Skull

Since the doll stays above your head, it does not function like an ordinary inventory item. Stockpiles and pallets cannot accept it, and neither can preparation places, resurrection tables, embalming tables, or zombie work stations. Burial, cremation, and disposal in the river are unavailable as well; it remains carried until you set it down.

Fast travel still works while holding it. Open your inventory, use the Teleport stone, and pick Talking skull from the destination list alongside entries like Sweet home, Dead Horse, Lighthouse, Quarry, and Refugee camp.

Placing the bartender behind the bar counter

Enter the tavern and walk around to the back of the bar counter. The valid placement spot lights up with the same yellow outline used for interactive objects.
Press the put key when the prompt appears. The doll settles into position behind the counter.
Let the cutscene play out. The ghost Yorick moves into the doll and takes over as the tavern’s Barman, working without pay.

You will know it worked when the short dialogue triggers and the doll responds with a line about the workmanship being clumsy but good enough. After that, the figure behind the bar becomes an active vendor selling food and drinks, and you can start filling its inventory.

Spare dolls and one-time crafting

You can craft the Barman Doll as many times as you like right up until you deliver one to the Talking Skull. Once a doll is placed behind the bar, the recipe is gone for good.

Extra dolls made before that point cannot be destroyed or stored anywhere. Craft exactly one unless you want a permanent spare taking up space.

With the Barman in place, the tavern runs on its own between visits. Keep the shelves and the Box Racks in the cellar stocked with Beer, Wine, Mead, or Booze, drop off cooked food, and the profits accumulate for you to collect the next time you stop in.
