Leon’s trial before Saint Louis is not something you argue your way through. There is no dialogue menu, no option to pick, and no way to answer “correctly.” The trial is a cutscene. The only thing you control is the step before it, which is balancing the Scales of Justice inside the Palace of Justice. Do that, and everything after it happens automatically.

Quick answer: Step onto the vacant pan on the left and activate R1 (PC: E) (INTERACT). The scale transfers your health to the corrupted heart in the opposite pan until both sides balance, starting the trial.

Where the Scales of Justice are in the Palace of Justice

In Paris Streets, pass through the Court of Justice to enter the Palace of Justice. A massive tree-shaped statue there holds two pans: the left is empty, while the right contains a dark, corrupted heart threaded with red veins.

A plaque at the base of the statue reads “BALANCING THE SCALES OF JUSTICE” and carries the line: “Neither tyranny nor force may move the scales of justice, Only that which is written on the heart and the spirit of the law.” Reading it also unlocks a clue for The Judge.

How to balance the scale

Jump onto the empty left pan of the scale. Position Rose so the on-screen prompt shows “INTERACT [R1]” (PC: E).
Press R1 (PC: E). A crimson line links Rose to the tainted heart in the right pan, and both the health bar and spell mana bar begin draining into it, but this drain cannot kill Rose.
Keep holding through it until the two sides level. The trophy “The King is dead, long live the King” pops, the heart turns gold, and the stone statue wakes as Saint Louis. Expect to be left on very low health afterward.

Stepping on the pan too soon in the story has no effect, and Rose says, “Looks like it didn’t do anything.” Because the scale drains health and mana, the likely solution is to return later with larger bars—for instance, after the Notre-Dame Death fight.

The trial is a cutscene with no choices

The speaker label first reads “THE JUDGE”, then changes to “SAINT LOUIS.” Leon appears, and Medusa accuses him, arguing that his soul remains unjudged and that justice will tip out of balance again unless the case against him and his clan is heard.

Rose is allowed by Saint Louis to defend her clan; she makes her case about Leon’s intent, and Saint Louis delivers his verdict. Advance the dialogue using only the Cross button. Saint Louis says justice has been restored, Dracula no longer controls him, and he offers Rose his power.

Rewards: The Judge card and Valmanway

Claim Saint Louis’s gift by striking the golden orb resting on the scale’s left side. It yields an Arcana card and a legendary weapon.

The Judge grants the spell CHAINS OF JUSTICE: “Chains enemies around Rose, preventing them from moving for 4 seconds. The first time a chained enemy would take damage, they take added bonus damage.” The card prompts you to HOLD TO EQUIP, then CONTINUE.

Valmanway is described as “A wind-infused legendary blade. Attacks are doubled after a quick delay.” Its listed moves are “Attack right after a backdash or slide to deal more damage” and “Dash through.” When the trial ends, you get The Judge Arcana card and Valmanway.
