Outlaws wander the map during the Wild West event in Storage Hunters: Open World, and they are one of the fastest Gold Nugget sources in the game right now. You do not need to shoot them, chase them, or fight them down. A lasso turns the whole encounter into a single interaction.
Quick answer: Equip a lasso from your inventory, walk up to an outlaw until a gold ring appears around them, and rope them. Each capture pays 10 Gold Nuggets instantly.
What you need before hunting outlaws
The only requirement is the Lasso, a Wild West item that comes out of the event auctions. It is part of the 47-item Wild West Collection index and sells for $85, so treat any spare copies as loot rather than something to hold onto. Entry to Wild West Garage 1 costs 10 Gold Nuggets, which means a single outlaw capture funds one more auction run.
Mutated lassos work exactly the same. The Tumbleweed variant is one of four limited mutators introduced with the event, alongside Dusty, Gunsmoked, and Goldrush. A mutation changes what the item is worth, not how the capture works, so a plain lasso ropes outlaws just as reliably as a rare one.
Outlaws spawn across the wider map, not only in the Wild West town. They show up in areas like the Shipyard and the Back Alley, and they are marked with a green “OUTLAW” label and a health bar floating above them.

How to confirm the capture worked
The outlaw’s status text changes twice. It flips to “LASSOED” the moment the rope connects, then to “CAPTURED” when the NPC is taken out of play. A floating +10 Gold Nuggets counter appears at the same time and your nugget balance updates right away.
If you never see the gold ring, you are still out of range. Move closer and the indicator will appear.
The alternative: guns and the Sheriff
Bounty hunting is the other route to the same currency, and it is the one the Sheriff’s quest line pushes you toward. You pull a working gun from the Wild West Auctions, defeat outlaws around the map, then bring them to the Sheriff, who hands over Gold Nuggets in return.
It works, but it is slower. The lasso skips the combat step entirely and pays out on contact, which makes it the better option if nuggets are all you care about.
Where to spend Gold Nuggets
Nuggets only cover two things during the event: auction entry and market rolls. Everything else still runs on cash and Diamonds.
| Spend | Cost | Unlock requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Wild West Garage 1 | 10 Nuggets | Event access |
| Wild West Garage 2 | 20 Nuggets | 10 Garage 1 wins |
| Wild West Garage 3 | 30 Nuggets | 15 Garage 2 wins |
| Wild West Garage 4 | 40 Nuggets | 20 Garage 3 wins |
| Wild West Market roll | 200 Nuggets | None |
The Wild West Market sits inside the Saloon and is run by the Wild West Barrista. Each 200-nugget roll returns a random reward, weighted heavily toward potions. The Unlimited Xray Alien Potion is the most common result at 35 percent, while the Cowboy Classic Car sits at the bottom of the table at 0.5 percent. Twenty roped outlaws pay for exactly one roll.
Gold Nugget Safes from auctions and the gold panning minigame both feed the same pool, so it is worth running them alongside outlaw captures rather than picking one method. The Wild West area runs until September 26, 2026, and its exclusive items are expected to become unobtainable after that, the same way the Jurassic and Alien Invasion events closed out. If you want the Limited Outlaw title that comes with a full 47-item index, the nugget grind is what gets you there — and you can jump straight in from the Storage Hunters: Open World experience page.
