How to Catch Skolopendra in Fisch (Obsidian Trench)

Skolopendra is an Exotic catch hidden in the Obsidian Trench, the deepest layer of Mariana’s Veil in Fisch. It does not appear on its own. You have to awaken it by clearing out enough of another trench monster first, then meet a strict set of bait, weather, and season conditions before it will bite.

Quick answer: Catch 4 to 6 Veiled Charybdis in one Obsidian Trench server until the crystals glow deep red, then fish during Rain or Foggy weather in Autumn or Winter using Kraken Tentacle bait.

What you need before Skolopendra will appear

Skolopendra spawns only in the Obsidian Trench, which sits at the bottom of Mariana’s Veil and was added in Version 2.02.0. Before you can even trigger it, gather the following:

You can reach the Obsidian Trench fishing area.
Kraken Tentacle bait to equip when the boss rises.
The season set to Autumn or Winter, with Rain or Foggy weather active.
High resilience and skill, since Skolopendra has an Extreme resilience rating of -100 and a locked progress speed.

Skolopendra cannot be caught with the Tranquility Rod or Bellona’s Waraxe. Use a standard fishing rod, and the Fabulous Rod works well for the minigame ahead.

How to awaken Skolopendra in the Obsidian Trench

The spawn is tied to catching Veiled Charybdis, the other Exotic monster that lives in the same trench. Clearing enough of them flips the entire area into its awakened state.

Travel down into the Obsidian Trench and start fishing in the trench waters. Ordinary catches like Basalt Behemoth will come up alongside the Charybdis.

Hook and land Veiled Charybdis until you have 4 to 6 in the same server session. The catches do not need to be back to back. During its own minigame, avoid the whirlpools that strip away rod control.

Watch the crystals around the trench. Once you have caught enough Charybdis, they shift from purple to deep, glowing red, and the chat displays “The Skolopendra rises from the Obsidian Trench!”

When the announcement fires, the giant sea centipede emerges into the trench arena. This is your window to catch it.

Skolopendra catch conditions: bait, weather, and season

Once the boss is up, equip Kraken Tentacle bait and make sure the environment matches its preferences. Casting under the wrong conditions will not start the special encounter.

After baiting your rod and matching the weather and season, cast into the trench waters to start the Skolopendra Hunt.

Beating the Skolopendra Hunt minigame

Skolopendra uses a unique “Skolopendra Hunt” bar instead of the standard reeling minigame. The mechanic is punishing because red danger zones appear on the left and right of the bar.

Keep the control indicator away from those flashing red hazard areas. Touching them permanently shrinks the size of your control bar, which makes every following moment harder. Track the incoming warnings and steer clear before they light up.

The Fabulous Rod is a strong pick here thanks to its handling, which helps you hold position while avoiding the shrinking hazard zones through the long fight.

Rewards and confirming the catch

You know the catch worked when the reel completes and a catch notification names your Skolopendra, along with an exclamation such as “A TERRIFYING MULTI-LEGGED TITAN!” Landing it grants a large XP payout of around 60,000 and unlocks the Obsidian Chunk Bobber.

Registering Skolopendra also completes the Obsidian Trench page in your Bestiary, taking that location to 100 percent once Veiled Charybdis and the rest of the local species are logged. From there you can start working toward the Chasm-Stalker Rod, the update’s headline reward for conquering the trench.
