Display brightness is one of the few settings on the computer that needs to be changed frequently. A user must understand how the brightness affects both the system and the user.

You have to adjust the display brightness based on your location, say whether you are indoors or out in the Sun. If you are outdoors, you will have to turn up the brightness level while it will be kept low indoors. Another thing about the display we must know is that too bright screen can affect our eyes.

Display brightness has a vital impact on battery life as well. It’s an inverse relation, if you turn up the brightness, the battery life will decrease. In this article, we will discuss how to change display brightness in Windows 10.

Changing Display Brightness

You can change display brightness in many ways, and we will be discussing a couple of methods below.

Changing Brightness of Laptop Display

Display brightness can be changed manually from Settings. To change it manually, right-click on the windows icon at the extreme left of the taskbar and then select ‘Settings’.

In Settings, click on ‘System’, the first option.

The display settings will open by default. To change the display brightness, drag the slider by holding the left click and moving it. To increase brightness level, move the slider to the right and to the left to decrease brightness.

You will notice the display brightness changing as you drag the slider. Stop moving the slider once you reach the optimal display brightness.

Battery Settings for Display

Click on the battery sign on the Taskbar and then select ‘Battery settings’.

In battery settings, chose at what battery level you want to turn the battery saver on by clicking on the box and selecting an option from the menu. Then, tick the checkbox for ‘Lower screen brightness while in battery saver’.

This battery setting will automatically lower the display brightness, once the battery saver turns on at the level set by you. It helps conserve battery life by decreasing the brightness level when the device is running out of charge.

Changing Brightness of Monitor (External Display)

Windows 10 supports multiple display devices, but there is no setting to change the brightness of external displays. You can download Monitorian, a third-party app from the Microsoft Store.

To download the app, first open ‘Microsoft Store’ by searching for it in the Start menu.

On the Microsoft Store window, type ‘Monitorian’ in the search box on the top right corner and press ENTER.

Now, select Monitorian from the search result and click on ‘Get’.

Wait until the app installs, and then click on the ‘Launch’ button to open Monitorian.

Now, click on the app icon in the System Tray. All the available display devices are visible here, and their brightness can be changed by dragging the slider.

Monitorian also allows you to change the display brightness of all the monitors simultaneously. To enable it, right-click on the app icon in the System Tray and select ‘Enable moving in Unison’.

Now that you know how to change display brightness, set the brightness as per your preference and comfort to have a pleasant experience while working on your device.
