If you opened Fortnite’s quest tab, found the Reload: Nitemare Two set, and saw one locked line where the objectives should be, the game is working as intended. Reload: Nitemare Two depends on Reload: Nitemare One, and every Nitemare One objective has to be done on one specific map. That map is Nitemare Island, and it isn’t always in the Reload rotation.
Quick answer: Finish one Reload: Nitemare One quest to unlock Reload: Nitemare Two. Nitemare One only progresses on Nitemare Island, which is scheduled to return to Reload on October 20.
Why Reload: Nitemare Two is locked
Reload’s Fortnitemares quests come in three chained sets. Only the first one is playable from the start. The second one shows a single gate objective, Complete Reload quests to unlock more quests, with a counter at 0/1. A quest from the first set fills that counter, and nothing else does.
| Quest set | Status | What opens it |
|---|---|---|
| Reload: Nitemare One | Active | Available from the start |
| Reload: Nitemare Two | Locked | Complete 1 Reload quest |
| Reload: Nitemare Three | Timed | Unlocks on a countdown |
That creates a bottleneck. All three Nitemare One quests name locations on Nitemare Island. If the Reload playlist is serving a different map, as it was when Squid Grounds was the active Reload map, none of those quests can progress. In turn, Nitemare Two can’t open. Playing more Reload matches on another map won’t get you past the gate.

Add to Google Preferences →Reload: Nitemare One quests that unlock Nitemare Two
You only need one of these to open Nitemare Two. Each one also counts toward the wider Fortnitemares reward track, so finishing all three is still worth it.
| Objective | Target | Where | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Damage players | 500 | Retail Ruin or Estranged Estate | 15K XP |
| Land at Named Locations | 10 | Any Named Location on Nitemare Island | 15K XP |
| Search containers | 25 | Terror Turrets or Haunted Hamlet | 15K XP + cosmetic |
The landing quest takes ten separate drops, so it needs ten matches. The damage and container quests are cumulative and can carry across matches. For the fastest single unlock, land at Retail Ruin or Estranged Estate and take fights there. One match with 500 damage dealt inside either location finishes the quest and also counts one landing.
How to play Nitemare Island in Fortnite Reload
Reload doesn’t let you pick a map. The playlist rotates through its maps roughly every 20 minutes, and you get whichever one is live when you queue. Nitemare Island is scheduled to come back into the Reload rotation on October 20.
If the pre-match map shows a different island, that match won’t count toward any Nitemare One objective. Leave and queue again after the rotation changes.
How to confirm Reload: Nitemare Two has unlocked
Open the Quests tab, either in the lobby or during a match, and select the Reload: Nitemare Two set. While the set is locked, it only shows the Complete Reload quests to unlock more quests line at 0/1. When that line reads 1/1 and the set lists its own objectives, Nitemare Two is open. Its quests can then be worked on like any other Reload quest.
Reload: Nitemare Three works differently. It isn’t tied to quest completion. It shows a countdown, More Reload quests unlocking in, followed by the remaining time, and it opens on its own when the timer runs out.
Reload: Nitemare Two vs. Battle Royale Nitemare Two
Battle Royale has its own Nitemare Two set, and it’s easy to mix the two up in the quest tab. The Battle Royale set is not locked behind Nitemare Island. It is played on the main Battle Royale map and centers on the Freddy Krueger crossover.
| Battle Royale Nitemare Two objective | Target | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Carve pumpkins at Nightmare Neighborhood or Wonkeeland | 5 | 15K XP |
| Damage opponents with Freddy’s Nightmare | 200 | 15K XP |
| Travel distance while airborne after landing from the bus | 1,500 m | 15K XP |
| Eliminate opponents with SMGs or pistols | 3 | 15K XP |
The pumpkin quest is marked on the island map once you select it. Both Nightmare Neighborhood and Wonkeeland count.

Pumpkins sit in small clusters, often around trees. Walk up to one and use the carve prompt. Each pumpkin you carve adds one to the counter.

To complete Freddy’s Nightmare, take down Freddy Krueger in Nightmare Neighborhood, then use his dropped item against other players. Battle Royale quests don’t advance the Reload gate; only Reload quests unlock Reload: Nitemare Two.
Fortnitemares reward track and the Jack-A-Nape outfit
Quests from Battle Royale, Horde Rush, and Reload all feed one shared Fortnitemares counter. Clearing all three Reload: Nitemare One quests and then the Nitemare Two set adds to the same total that unlocks the free Jack-A-Nape outfit at 26 completed quests.
| Quests completed | Reward | Type |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Banner Icon | Banner |
| 4 | The Clockwork Ape | Loading Screen |
| 8 | Jack’s Wind-Up Key | Back Bling |
| 12 | Monkey Biz | Emote |
| 16 | Jack’s Tambourine | Pickaxe |
| 20 | Tambourine Surprise | Emote |
| 26 | Jack-A-Nape | Outfit |
Jack-A-Nape is part of the Carving Corps set. The rewards are not exclusive and may show up in the Item Shop later. The quests themselves end with Fortnitemares on November 1, 2026, so the window to unlock Nitemare Two, finish it, and reach 26 runs until then. Reload players should plan most of that around the days Nitemare Island is in rotation.
