Where to start, how to reach the Echo Isles, and the exact kills needed to finish this level 10 Horde quest.

Zalazane is a level 10 Horde quest in World of Warcraft Classic that sends you to the Echo Isles to hunt down the rogue witch doctor who once drove the Darkspear tribe from their home. To finish it you must kill Zalazane, take his head, and thin out his followers before returning to Sen’jin Village.

Quick answer: Pick up the quest from Master Gadrin in Sen’jin Village, travel to the largest island of the Echo Isles, kill Zalazane plus 8 Voodoo Trolls and 8 Hexed Trolls, loot Zalazane’s Head, then hand it back to Gadrin.

Quest requirements and objectives

The quest opens at level 4 but is tuned for level 10, and Zalazane himself is a level 10 shaman. Trying it much lower means fighting a target that outlevels you, so plan around this before you swim out.

Step-by-step: finishing the Zalazane quest

Find Master Gadrin beside the little pool at the center of Sen’jin Village and speak with him. Accept the quest afterward to place its objectives in your log.

Open your map and head southeast out of Sen’jin Village into the ocean. Swim across to the Echo Isles, which lie off the southeastern coast of Durotar. The southeasternmost, largest island is where the quest takes place.

Work through the camp and start clearing Voodoo Trolls. You need 8 of them, and they patrol among the huts and ruins across the island. Pull them one at a time to avoid stacking too many at once.

Hunt the 8 Hexed Trolls, which spawn mostly in the northern part of the island around the huts and bonfires. A large wooden hut on the island holds several of them, so climbing its ramp is an efficient way to reach your final kills.
Fight Zalazane. His route carries him from the central hilltop into the huts ahead, then back toward the summit. You can eliminate the trolls by the huts first, or circle around the hill’s rear and wait for Zalazane to come back up, letting you engage him without adds.

Once Zalazane falls, loot his corpse to collect Zalazane’s Head. The objective updates to 1/1 in your quest tracker.

Finish any remaining troll kills you still need, then swim back northwest to Sen’jin Village and return to Master Gadrin to turn in the quest.

How to beat Zalazane and his minions

Zalazane restores his health several times during the battle, making him difficult to defeat quickly. Hold any interrupt for his healing cast to prevent the fight from lasting longer. He can also curse you, lowering Strength and Stamina by a few points, but he is still killable while the curse remains.

His minions each behave differently. Voodoo Trolls can cast lightning shield and healing wave, so they take longer if you cannot interrupt. Hexed Trolls mainly use Immolate and will flee at low health, so a slow or root before the killing blow keeps them from running.

Complete Minshina’s Skull first to get the Faintly Glowing Skull. The skull sits on top of the same hill Zalazane patrols, and you can grab it while he is walking below. Use the skull on Zalazane at roughly half health and it can deal enough damage to finish him almost instantly.

Because both Zalazane and Minshina’s Skull are on the Echo Isles, it saves a lot of swimming to carry both quests at once. Grouping with other players in the camp is also a reliable way to bring him down if you are close to the recommended level.

Rewards and confirming completion

When you hand Zalazane’s Head to Master Gadrin, the quest completes and you choose one of two rewards: Lightweight Boots or Veiled Grips. You also gain the quest experience along with reputation for Orgrimmar and the Darkspear Trolls.

You know it worked when Gadrin’s completion dialogue plays and the quest clears from your log. After turning it in, you can speak with his assistant Bom’bay behind him for a few harmless voodoo effects if you want to see them.
