Many AI tools out there today are not just great at providing information or generating text-based content, but they can also create images using prompts provided by users. Microsoft's Copilot, powered by Dall-E 3, an image-generating AI model developed by OpenAI, is especially useful for this. However, you may sometimes want to edit the images after they have been created.
Thanks to a recent update, this Copilot AI has now gained the power of inline image editing. This means you can edit the generated images directly in the AI tool without needing to use an external editor. Let's see how this works.
Editing Images Generated By Copilot AI
To edit images generated by Copilot AI, you will need to access Copilot using a supported browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge. The feature does not work on mobile apps currently.
- Launch your browser and visit copilot.microsoft.com. This will take you to the Copilot website. Once there, log in to your Microsoft account using the 'Sign In' button in the upper right corner.
- After signing in, you will be able to see the available Copilot GPTs in a panel on the right side of your screen. Select the 'Designer' Copilot used for AI image generation by clicking on it.
- To generate an image, you will need to enter a prompt in the search box at the bottom. For instance, use a prompt like,
create a house made of chocolate, candy, and other treats with a chimney from which cotton candy is coming out as smoke.
- Once you press the 'Enter' key, Designer will generate four images based on the prompt. You can select any of the images from the provided options to edit them by clicking it.
- Selecting an image will bring it into view, allowing you to edit it easily. You can see a few effects, like 'Pixel Art', 'Watercolor', and 'Block Print' below the image, right away.
6. To edit the image, click the three dots that appear on the upper right corner of the image, and then click the 'Edit In Designer' option. With this option, you can add filters, adjust the lighting, and edit the image in the Designer app, which opens in a separate tab.
- However, the editing abilities of the Designer Copilot can help you edit different elements of the selected image directly. To do so, move your mouse pointer over the various elements. Hovering over them will highlight them, and clicking the highlighted element will select it.
You can also select multiple elements by pressing and holding the 'Shift' key and clicking the elements to be selected. Similarly, clicking anywhere else will deselect the selected elements.
- Selecting any element in the image will provide you with two options - 'Color Pop' and 'Blur Background'. The former will turn everything except the selected element white and black, while the latter can blur the background, as the name suggests.
- Once you've selected an element, click the 'Color Pop' option to turn all other elements white and black. If you want to keep the changes, click the 'Looks Good' button. Alternatively, click the 'Undo' button to revert it to its former state.
- Similarly, click the 'Blur Background' option to blur the background of the image. You can also go back and select another image from the variants by clicking the 'Back' button on the upper left corner of the image.
- Finally, you can apply effects like 'Pixel Art', 'Watercolor', 'Steampunk', or any other option by clicking on them from the bottom of the image.
- Here the 'Pixel Art' effect has been applied to the generated image. You can always remove the effects by clicking the 'Undo' button and try another one. Or save it by clicking the 'Looks Good' button.
- After you've finished editing the image, you can share it using the 'Share' button at the top right of the image.
- Clicking the 'Share' button will show you a pop-up containing a link to the image. You can copy the link manually or by using the 'Copy Link' button and then share it with others.
- Alternatively, you can download the image by clicking the three dots in the upper right corner of the image and then clicking the 'Download' button.
That's all there is to it. Copilot Pro subscribers also have additional options that allow resizing images and even regenerating them in landscape and square formats.
Note that the image editing features of the Designer Copilot are currently available only in select countries. You can access them if you live in the US, UK, Australia, India, and New Zealand. If you live outside these regions, you may need to wait till the editing features become available there.
The new image editing features in the Designer Copilot make it easy to edit images as required directly from the Copilot interface without using any external software. So, go forth and edit your creations to your heart's content!
