How to Fish: How to Kill a Seagull With Dynamite for Everyone’s Dream

The exact timing, the inventory trick that pauses a lit fuse, and how to survive the blast.

The exact timing, the inventory trick that pauses a lit fuse, and how to survive the blast.

Seagulls in How to Fish exist to ruin your day. They circle overhead, wait for you to reel something in, and snatch the catch before you can pocket it. Everyone’s Dream turns that annoyance into a Steam achievement, and it has exactly one solution: the bird has to die to an explosion.

Quick answer: Buy dynamite, catch a fish and leave it out as bait, then throw the lit stick at the seagull the instant it grabs the fish. The blast kills the bird and Everyone’s Dream unlocks.

What you need before attempting Everyone’s Dream

Dynamite is not available on the starting island. You have to clear the Spider Crab boss first, which opens up Island 2 (Forest), where the explosive shows up as a purchasable item. Grab a full stack — you will almost certainly waste a few sticks learning the timing.

RequirementDetail
AchievementEveryone’s Dream — kill a seagull with dynamite
Item neededDynamite, bought from a shop
Earliest accessIsland 2 (Forest), after defeating the Spider Crab
BaitAny fish, but a larger one is easier to spot
Recommended spotIsland 3, thanks to its open ground and sightlines

Note: keep this separate from Let Me Go, the other seagull achievement. That one requires a bird to pick you up and drop you. If you blow up every gull you see, you will be waiting a long time for another one to commit. Do Let Me Go first, then start the demolition work.

The inventory trick that pauses a lit fuse

The whole achievement hinges on one quirk. If you light a stick of dynamite and immediately stow it in your inventory, the fuse stops burning. The dynamite stays lit and armed, but it will not detonate while it is put away. That means you can prepare the explosive well before a seagull shows up, instead of scrambling to light one while a bird is already diving at your fish.

Pull it back out and the fuse resumes where it left off, which is why you should treat the stowed stick as a live bomb rather than a spare item.

Setting the trap: dynamite, bait, and a seagull

Purchase a stack of dynamite on the Forest island and keep it in your inventory. One stick is theoretically enough, but the timing window is tight and spares save you a shopping trip.
Move somewhere with open ground. The third island works well because there is enough clear space to track a bird in flight and see where your throw lands, rather than losing the fish in dense foliage.
Catch a fish with your rod and leave it out as bait. Any species triggers the theft behavior, but a bigger catch is easier to keep an eye on and easier to line up your throw against.
Equip a stick of dynamite, light it, and put it straight back into your inventory. The fuse freezes, leaving you with a primed explosive and both hands free to wait.
Wait for a seagull to swoop in and latch onto the fish. That grab is your cue — throw the dynamite at the bird right at that moment, while it is still busy with the catch and effectively stationary.

The guaranteed method (that kills you too)

If the throw keeps missing, there is a blunter option. Pick the seagull up while it is close, then equip the live dynamite from your inventory. The paused fuse restarts, the stick goes off at point-blank range, and both you and the bird are caught in the blast.

You die. The achievement still pops, because the game only cares that a seagull was killed by an explosion. It is the reliable route if precision throwing is not working out — you are trading a death for a guaranteed unlock.

Confirming the unlock and why attempts fail

You will know it worked when the seagull dies to the explosion itself and the Steam achievement notification for Everyone’s Dream appears. If the bird dies but nothing unlocks, the kill almost certainly came from something other than the dynamite.

Why it did not triggerWhat to change
You shot the seagullHolster the rifle entirely while going for this. Only the explosion counts.
Throw landed lateRelease as the bird latches onto the fish, not after it starts flying off.
Dynamite detonated in hand earlyStow the stick immediately after lighting it so the fuse pauses.
No bird appearedLeave a fish out in the open and wait — the theft behavior is what draws them in.
No dynamite in the shopBeat the Spider Crab and reach the Forest island first.

Nothing in How to Fish is permanently missable, so a failed attempt costs you a stick of dynamite and a bit of time. Once Everyone’s Dream is done, the seagulls stop being a checklist item and go back to being what they always were: thieves that deserve whatever you throw at them.
