When Scrap Metal bites, a Common exclamation mark appears above your character and a bell sound plays, the standard signal for a Trash catch. After you reel it in, the catch line reads “Just a piece of scrap metal!” and the item lands in your inventory ready to sell or craft with.
If it is not appearing at all, the usual causes are fishing at night, sitting inside an abundance pool, or running heavy luck buffs that steer you away from Trash. Reset those conditions and it should show up quickly in any of the listed spots.
