How to Get the Foundation Sprite in Fortnite (Chapter 7 Season 3)

The Foundation Sprite appears in the Battle Pass styles but is not obtainable yet, and here is what that means for you.

The Foundation Sprite appears in the Battle Pass styles but is not obtainable yet, and here is what that means for you.

The Foundation Sprite is one of the cosmetic Sprite styles shown inside the Fortnite: Runners Battle Pass, and it has drawn a lot of confused searches because players can see it but cannot find it on the Shattered Coast. The short version is that it exists in the game files and preview art, but it has not been switched on for players to collect.

Quick answer: You cannot get the Foundation Sprite right now. It is unreleased and does not spawn anywhere on the map yet, so no amount of searching, chest opening, or talking to NPCs will unlock it until Epic activates it in a future update.

Current status of the Foundation Sprite

The Foundation Sprite is visible as an unlockable edit style, which is why it looks like something you should be able to hunt down. Right now it is not live in matches. The same applies to the Air Sprite, which is also shown in preview form but is not yet available to find or extract.

Because it is only present as a style preview and in the game files, there is no drop location, no chest, and no NPC reward that grants it. Searching spots like Shaken Sanctuary or the high points of the map will not produce it, since the item simply has not been enabled for play.

Note: There is no confirmed release date for the Foundation Sprite at this time. Sprites like this have followed a staggered rollout during the season, so it is expected to arrive in a later update rather than at launch.

How to tell it is genuinely unavailable

You can confirm the Foundation Sprite is not obtainable by checking your Collection. Extracted Sprites are banked to your Collection and can be summoned at the start of a match using Sprite Dust. If the Foundation Sprite is not selectable there and does not appear as a pickup in matches, it has not been released, no matter how it looks in the Battle Pass style menu.

This is the same pattern other locked Sprites have followed, where an item sits in the files and preview art before it is turned on for players. Seeing it as a locked style is not a sign that you missed a spawn, it is a sign that the item is queued for a later patch.

How Sprites are collected in Fortnite: Runners

Once the Foundation Sprite goes live, it will use the same collection loop as every other Sprite this season. Understanding that loop now means you will be ready the moment it appears in the loot pool.

Find a Sprite during a match. Sprites spawn as pickups across the Shattered Coast, and each one grants a Sprite Power when equipped.

Carry it to an Extraction Site. You then defend your position while an extraction timer runs down.
Survive the timer to bank the Sprite to your Collection. If you are eliminated before the extraction finishes, the Sprite drops on the battlefield for another player to grab.
Spend Sprite Dust at the start of future matches to summon a Sprite you have already extracted, equipping its power before you leave the Battle Bus. Rarer Sprites cost more Dust to summon.

A Portable Extractor can shortcut this by extracting your equipped Sprite from anywhere on the island, which is useful for a rare Sprite you have been chasing. Successful extractions also reward Sprite Dust, the currency used to summon and upgrade Sprites in later matches.

Sprites you can actually get right now

While the Foundation Sprite waits in the wings, the following Sprites are part of the active pool and can be found and extracted. Each grants its own Sprite Power.

RaritySpritePower
RareEarth SpriteChance to find additional rare items when opening chests
RareFire SpriteFiery burst after dealing enough damage to an enemy
RareWater SpriteReplenishes shield in water for you and nearby Squad
EpicDuck SpriteEmoting or Jamming replenishes shields
EpicGhost SpriteGrants cloak for a duration when reloading
EpicDemon SpriteSiphons health and shields on elimination
EpicKing SpritePickaxe deals more damage
LegendaryDream SpriteRandom item at each level, legendary loot at Max Level
LegendaryPunk SpritePossibly nothing, or infinitely something
MythicZero Point SpriteSpawns a Shield Bubble Jr. when you use a healing item on yourself

Sprites level up in three ways, through exploration by finding and opening chests, through eliminations by downing opponents, and through extraction by banking Sprites. Reaching max level and then extracting a max-level Sprite grants Mastery, which unlocks progression rewards across the season.

For now, the best move is to keep collecting and mastering the Sprites that are live, build up Sprite Dust, and watch each update. The Foundation Sprite is coming through the same extraction system, so the moment it enters the pool you will already know exactly how to grab it and bank it.
