Microsoft Edge is a chromium-based browser, as the name suggests, from Microsoft. It is also preinstalled on every Windows machine. Though Microsoft took its own sweet time to integrate all the essential functionalities, it is finally at par with the competition.

Fortunately, along with essential functionalities, Edge also gained cross-platform adaptability. This facilitates ease of convenience for users who are migrating from Windows or Android platforms to macOS and iOS platforms respectively. It also proves to be a great option for users looking for alternatives to Safari on their Apple Devices

Whether you have recently shifted platforms and wish to make the transition easier, or wish to explore an alternative to the Safari browser already present on your device, this guide will serve your purpose just right.

So, without any further ado, let’s get started with installing Microsoft Edge on your iOS and macOS devices.

Download and Install Microsoft Edge on your iPhone from the App Store

Downloading and installing an app from the App Store on your iPhone has never been a cumbersome process. The same holds for Microsoft Edge as well. However, do take note that the extensions you might use with Edge on your PC are not available for Edge on mobile.

To download Edge on your iPhone, first, head to the App Store, either from the home screen or the app library on your device.

Next, tap on the ‘Search’ tab present in the bottom right corner of the App Store screen.

Now, on the next screen, type Microsoft Edge in the search bar and tap on the blue-colored ‘search’ button present on the bottom-right corner of the on-screen keyboard.

After that, from the search results, locate the ‘Microsoft Edge’ option and open it. Then, click the ‘Get’ button present underneath the app name. Then, to start the download, authenticate your app purchase using your preferred method of authentication. Don’t worry, there will be no charges for this “app purchase.”

And, that’s it. Once installed, you’ll find the Microsoft Edge browser on the home screen or app library of your device, depending on your settings.

You can sign in with any Microsoft account in the browser and any favorites, stored passwords and reading lists associated with that account will appear in your mobile app.

Download and Install Microsoft Edge on your MacBook

Downloading and installing Microsoft Edge on macOS devices is a bit different from its iOS counterpart. However, it doesn’t translate to the process being difficult.

To download Edge on your macOS device, head to microsoft.com/edge using your preferred browser. Then, once the web page loads completely, click on the ‘Download for macOS’ button present on the webpage. This will open a separate overlay window on your screen.

From the overlay window, select your version of MacBook to continue. If your macOS device has an Intel chip, click on the ‘Mac with Intel chip button. Otherwise, click on the ‘Mac with Apple chip’ button, if your macOS device has an M1 chip from Apple.

Next, click on the ‘Accept & download’ button present in the bottom right corner of the overlay window to commence the download on your device.

Once downloaded, head to the default downloads directory on your machine. Double-click on the .PKG file to unbox the Edge Installer.

In case your device notifies you that the installer could not be opened because it is not from Apple, click on the ‘OK’ button to dismiss the prompt.

After that, open the ‘System Preferences’ app, either from the dock or from the launchpad of your machine to continue.

From the System Preferences screen, click on the ‘Security & Privacy ‘ tile from the grid of options.

Now, click on the ‘Open Anyway’ button present on the bottom right section of the window that opens to run the Edge installer.

From the Edge installer window, click on the ‘Continue’ button present in the bottom-right corner.

After that, click to select the disk where you would wish to install Microsoft Edge from the options present under the ‘Select a Destination’ section. Then, click on the ‘Continue’ button.

Finally, on the next screen, click on the ‘Install’ button present in the bottom right section.

You will be required to enter your device passcode to continue with the installation. Enter the password and click the ‘Install Software’ button.

Once the installation is complete, click on the ‘Close’ button present in the bottom right corner of the window.

After that, a prompt will appear on your screen asking for your confirmation to delete the installer package. Click on the ‘Move to Trash’ button to delete the installer package.

And that’s it. You can now use Edge for all your browsing needs on your Mac.

With all the recent improvements, Edge has become a great browser. And installing Microsoft Edge on your Apple devices couldn’t be simpler. Now, go surf the Internet using the newly added browser on your device.
