How to Max Out Your Soul Reaper in Roblox Paradox — From Zero to Bankai

Soul Reapers are the most involved race to level in Roblox Paradox, but the progression follows a clear chain: grind Potential through missions, pass exams and minigames, defeat key NPCs, and optionally pick up Vizard before capping everything off with Bankai. Below is every step, every breakpoint, and every answer you need to get there without wasting time.

Quick answer: Complete missions to raise Potential from 0 → 75 (Shinigami Exam) → 200 (Shikai) → 500 (optional Vizard) → 705 (Bankai), defeating the Kisuke NPC at each breakpoint along the way.

Potential and Missions — The Core Loop

Potential is the single progression stat that gates every Soul Reaper milestone. The only way to earn it is by completing missions. Press the comma key (",") on PC to toggle the NPC overlay, then locate a Missions portal in either Soul Society or Karakura Town. Interact with the portal and select Teleport to queue in. Scavenger Hunt and Find The Impostor finish quickly, while Chase and Exterminate yield the most experience per run.

To check your current Potential at any time, return to the slot selection menu or speak with the Julian NPC in Karakura Town. You can reach Karakura Town by pressing ~ (tilde) to open your inventory, equipping the Gate ability onto your hotbar, drawing your weapon with E, and then activating the Gate.

Shinigami Exam at 75 Potential

After roughly ten completed missions you will hit 75 Potential, which unlocks the Soul Reaper exam. Head to the Professor NPC inside the Soul Reaper Academy in Soul Society — he is in the classroom at the far left end of the hallway. Sit down and answer eight questions. Get any question wrong, and you can simply retake the exam.

Kisuke NPC Fights and Potential Breakpoints

Your Potential will hit hard caps at several thresholds. To break through each one, travel to Karakura Town and challenge the Kisuke NPC. Defeating him removes the cap and rewards a Skill Crystal (or a Skill Gem with a one-hour cooldown if you fight him outside a breakpoint).

Breakpoint PotentialWhat It Unlocks
125Allows Potential to continue rising toward 200 (Shikai)
250Continues progression after Shikai
375Mid-tier progression gate
500Opens Vizard quest line (optional)
625Final gate before 705 cap (Bankai)

Unlocking Shikai at 200 Potential

Once you pass the 125 breakpoint by beating Kisuke and grind missions up to 200 Potential, you can begin the three-stage Shikai obtainment. You must be standing inside Soul Society, then press N on PC (or DPadLeft on console) to meditate. Each stage triggers automatically after you complete the previous one by meditating again.

Step 1: An Osu!-style minigame appears on screen. Numbers 1 through 4 pop up one at a time — press each number key in the order shown. Timing is lenient here, so just focus on the correct sequence.

Step 2: A Guitar Hero-style minigame replaces the first. Circles drift downward toward indicators at the bottom of the screen. Press 1, 2, 3, or 4 as each circle crosses its matching indicator. The tempo is moderate, but missing too many notes will fail you.

Step 3: You fight your Shikai Spirit in a one-on-one arena. The spirit mirrors the power that was randomly assigned when you created the slot, so rarer powers tend to make this fight harder. A common issue is clipping through the ground or falling out of the map during the battle — stick to ranged moves when possible to avoid this.

After defeating the spirit, equip your weapon with E and press V (PC) or L3 (console) to activate your new Shikai moveset. Each Shikai starts with three base moves, and more unlock later in progression.

Vizard — Optional but Powerful (500 Potential)

Vizard is entirely optional. You do not need it to unlock Bankai, so if you want to speedrun the Soul Reaper path, skip ahead. That said, Vizard grants a +20% damage buff while active, instantly regenerates 20% of your max HP and Reiatsu on activation, and unlocks an exclusive Vizard Grab skill that bypasses blocking.

Vizard Quest Chain

Step 1: Reach 500 Potential and speak with the Jamaster NPC in Soul Society. He will task you with obtaining a Mask Remnant. Complete an Eternal Flame Trial — a ten-wave survival encounter found via the NPC overlay in Soul Society — to earn one. The Mask Remnant is a drop from the trial, so you may need multiple runs. Return the Mask Remnant to Jamaster.

Step 2: Jamaster now requires 50 Shinigami kills and 20 Ranked wins. You can farm kills on friends who also play Soul Reapers. Ranked wins simply require queuing and winning matches.

Step 3: Speak with Jamaster once more to teleport into the Vizard Trial area. The trial is a color-sequence memory puzzle. Colored buttons are scattered around the map, and you must press them in a hidden order.

  • Click any button. If you hear silence, it is correct — remember its color and position in the sequence.
  • If you hear a laugh, that button is wrong for the current position. The buttons reshuffle across the map, but the correct sequence stays the same as long as you remain on the server.
  • After each wrong guess, restart from the first correct button and work forward, trying a different color for the position that failed.

Repeat until you complete the full sequence. Once finished, Vizard is yours.

Vizard Grab Skill (Bonus)

Collect 5 Shattered Hogyokus from bosses, raids, or ranked matches and deliver them to the Ender NPC in Karakura Town. This unlocks Vizard Grab, a block-bypassing move that is strong in PvP.

Vizard Activation and Variants

Obtaining Vizard adds the Vizard/Bankai Bar to your HUD. The bar fills as you deal and receive damage. When it reaches 100%, press Ctrl + V (PC) or R1 + L3 (console) to activate. Activation also applies a cosmetic mask whose appearance depends on your variant. You can reroll the mask style with a Vizard Variant Reroll item.

Bankai — Final Soul Reaper Milestone (705 Potential)

Bankai is the capstone of the entire Shinigami progression. You need to reach the maximum of 705 Potential through missions and then clear a three-part quest chain.

Step 1: Get gripped (killed) 5 times by other players who are either Quincy or Hollow. NPC deaths do not count. The easiest method is to have a friend on a Quincy or Hollow slot repeatedly defeat you.

Step 2: Travel to Karakura Town and challenge the Kisuke NPC one final time. After defeating him, you gain the ability to confront your Bankai Spirit.

Step 3: Return to Soul Society and speak with the Bankai Spirit NPC to enter the Bankai Trials. You will be teleported to a room with multiple doors, each leading to a different trial.

Activate it in combat with Ctrl + V (PC) or R1 + L3 (console) — the same input as Vizard, but Bankai takes priority when both are available.

Frequently asked questions

Does rerolling my power reset Shikai, Vizard, or Bankai?
No. All Shinigami progression is preserved when you reroll. Your new power will already have Shikai and Bankai unlocked if you earned them before the reroll.

Do I need Vizard to get Bankai?
No. Vizard is completely optional. You can go straight from Shikai to Bankai by continuing to grind Potential and completing the Bankai quest chain.

If I unlock everything on one slot, do new slots inherit it?
No. Each slot has its own independent progression. You will need to redo the entire chain on every new slot.

The full Soul Reaper path in Paradox is long but linear — missions raise Potential, Kisuke fights break caps, and each milestone has a clear set of tasks to complete. Whether you rush straight to Bankai or detour through Vizard for the extra damage and block-bypass, knowing the exact breakpoints and quest steps ahead of time cuts the grind down significantly.
