Quickly Send Your Location with a Phrase in iMessage
The easiest way to send your location to someone in iMessage is by typing “I’m at” in the Message Box. Then as soon as you enter a space after the phrase, the option ‘Current Location’ option will appear in the Predictive text bar on the keyboard. Tap on it, and your location will be sent over to the other person. That’s it. It’s so simple. Just tapping the Current Location will send your location. You don’t have to send the “I’m at” message.
Please know that this method only works if you have Predictive text on. To turn it on, go to ‘Settings’, then scroll down and select ‘General’. Then go to ‘Keyboard’, and turn the toggle on for ‘Predictive’.
Send Your Location in iMessage from Contact Info
The above method isn’t the only way to send your location. If you don’t like to use Predictive text on your keyboard, or you want to share your location for extended periods of time, you can use this other method.
Open the conversation for the person you want to send the location to. Tap on their name at the top of the screen and then tap on ‘Info’ from the expanded options.
The details screen will open. Tap on ‘Send My Current Location’ to send your location to the other person.
If you want to share your location with them for an extended period of time, tap on ‘Share My Location.’
An options menu will pop-up. You can choose to share your location with the other person for ‘An hour’, ‘Until the End of Day’, or ‘Indefinitely.’ Choose the option accordingly.
Send Your Location from Google Maps App for iMessage
If you’ve Google Maps app installed on your iPhone, then you’ll also have it available on the app bar in iMessage.
To use it, swipe left on the app bar in iMessage and scroll through the available until you see ‘Google Maps’. Tap on it to launch it in a mini-view right inside the Messages app.
It will automatically start searching for your current location. Wait until it locks in on your current location, and then tap the ‘Send’ button.
The location will load to the Message box. Tap on the ‘Send’ button to share your location message.
If Google Maps isn’t visible as an app on the App Bar, you can add the same from the app drawer. Scroll to the right on the App Bar and tap on the ‘More’ option (three dots) to open the App Drawer.
Then, tap on the ‘Edit’ option at the upper right corner of the screen.
Then, scroll down and turn on the toggle for Google Maps to add it to the App Bar.
