The Infusion Altar is a Rare crafting station added with Enshrouded 1.0, and it only becomes available once you bring the Ancient Researcher back to your base. That survivor is Loraine Crim, and her soul is waiting deep inside Cinder’s Cradle, the lava region that stayed locked behind closed gates through all of Early Access. Reach her, settle her next to a bed, and the altar recipe opens up in her crafting menu.
Quick answer: Travel northeast past the Ancient Gate to the Cinder’s Ascent waypoint, collect Loraine Crim’s soul from the barred room under the ruins, place her as the Ancient Researcher beside a sheltered bed, then craft the Infusion Altar from her menu.
Recover Loraine Crim’s soul at Cinder’s Ascent
Cinder’s Ascent is a platform inside Cinder’s Cradle, the volcanic region north of the Veilwater Basin. You pick it up through the main quest “Land Of The Sky Islands,” which points you to look around the area and rewards 6,400 XP. The platform itself sits empty and inactive, but a lost soul nearby holds the key to reactivating it.

Add to Google Preferences →Place Loraine Crim as the Ancient Researcher
A survivor’s soul does nothing until you summon them at a base with a bed under a roof. Once Loraine is settled, she fills the Ancient Researcher role and her full crafting list becomes available, including the Infusion Altar.

Loraine also makes the Placeable Gem Forge, the Ancient Workbench, the Archaic Lockpick and more, so she’s worth keeping stocked once she joins the base.
Infusion Altar crafting requirements
The altar is built by the Ancient Researcher and needs a sheltered bed nearby to appear as a recipe. Here is everything the craft consumes and where each ingredient is produced.
| Ingredient | Amount | Made at | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 | Gathered | Cinder’s Cradle | |
| 10 | Mill | Gold Bars | |
| 5 | Blast Furnace | Celestium Ore | |
| 1 | Mill | Moonstone | |
| 1 | Mill | Diamond |
Basalt is a dense volcanic stone mined directly in Cinder’s Cradle, so gather it while you’re in the region. Celestium Ore also comes from the deposits that formed across Cinder’s Cradle after a meteorite impact, and it’s smelted into bars at the Blast Furnace. The three dusts are all ground at the Mill from their respective raw forms.
Ingredient reference for the Infusion Altar
Every crafted ingredient for the altar sits at item level 45 and carries Common rarity, with each one stacking to 250. Use this to plan your gathering runs before you commit the materials.
| Material | Item level | Rarity | Station |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45 | Common | Blast Furnace | |
| 45 | Common | Cinder’s Cradle | |
| 45 | Common | Mill | |
| 45 | Common | Mill |
Moonstone Dust and Diamond Dust each come out of the Mill at one per craft, so a single run covers the altar’s needs for both. Celestium Ore is the only piece that ties you to the lava region itself, which is convenient since you’ll be collecting Basalt there anyway.
What the Infusion Altar produces
After placing the altar, you can craft Archaic Infusion from its menu. This material is made by refining components from before recorded history, and the Ancient Researcher can use it. It is a level 45 Common item, produced in batches of five and stackable up to 250. The full chain is working when the altar appears at your base and its menu lists Archaic Infusion as a craftable recipe.
