Apple will be announcing the iOS 12 update at WWDC 2018 which will be held on 4th June and run until 8th June. The new iOS version will bring in a ton of new features and UI upgrades to iPhone and iPad devices. The iPhone 7 iOS 12 update will hit alongside other devices when it releases.

Apple often cuts down on new iOS features for older iPhone and iPad models. However, the iOS 12 update for iPhone 7 should be mostly similar to that of iPhone 8. iOS 12 is rumored to bring in many new features that iPhone 7 could use, unlike the iPhone 6 iOS 12 update which will lose out on many new features of iOS 12.

Rumor has it that Apple will be merging the iOS and Mac apps into a single platform with iOS 12 and macOS 10.14. But if you ask us, it seems very unlikely that Apple will be doing it this year. But it’ll eventually happen, and most likely with iOS 13 in WWDC 2019.

New features that iPhone 7 iOS 12 update will bring

  • Performance improvements: With iOS 12 update, expect your iPhone 7 to get faster than ever. After several complaints from users about slow performance on their iPhone and iPad devices with iOS 11, Apple is most concerned about delivering a performance boost with the iOS 12 update.
  • New AR stuff to play with: iOS 12 should bring in AR improvements to all supported AR capable iPhone and iPad devices, including iPhone 7. Rumor has it that iOS 12 will bring multi-person AR gaming to iPhone devices.
  • Improved Parental controls: Apple is rumored to bring enhanced parental controls to iOS to help parents better monitor their children’s digital health. With advanced controls, parents will be able to know how much time their children are spending on their iPhone and iPad devices.
  • Group calls on FaceTime: With iOS 12 on iPhone 7, you may finally be able to make group calls with FaceTime.

iOS 12 features that iPhone 7 won’t support

  • New Animoji: With iOS 12, Apple will be adding new Animojis to iOS. However, the feature will remain exclusive to iPhone X only.
  • Animoji support in FaceTime: Rumors also suggest that Apple will add Animoji support to FaceTime. But again, an iPhone X exclusive feature.

iPhone 7 iOS 12 Release date

iPhone 7 will get iOS 12 update alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone X when it releases. Apple is expected to release a developer beta for iOS 12 at the WWDC 2018 which will start on 4th June.

You must have a developer account, however, to install the iOS 12 developer beta builds. But if you can wait for a few of days/weeks, Apple will also provide iOS 12 public beta builds which everyone can download and install on their supported iPhone devices for free by joining the Apple Beta Software Program.

Once beta is available, you can follow our handy guide on how to install iOS beta on iPhone and iPad to get iOS 12 installed on your iPhone 7.
