The Kobold King expedition is the level 70 group activity in Legend of Ymir, and it is built around one objective rather than a sprawling dungeon crawl. Your party stands in front of the Tree of Life, holds off waves of kobolds, and then kills the boss that shows up to cut it down.
Quick answer: Kobold King 1 is the level 70 expedition where a five-player party defends the Tree of Life through kobold waves, then kills the Kobold King. The clear pays Lesser Rune Piece (Bound).
Kobold King 1 requirements: level, party size and CP
The expedition is gated at level 70, which is also the point where several character systems open up. A character sitting at level 70 with roughly 352,000 CP is comfortably inside the range that clears the first stage.

Before the run starts, the Expedition Info screen lists every party member with their level and CP, so you can check the group’s spread at a glance. A working party looks roughly like this.
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Expedition | Kobold King Stage 1 |
| Party size | 5 members |
| Level range | 70–73 |
| CP range | 316k–406k |
| Objective | Protect the Tree of Life |

Wave defense at the Tree of Life
The opening stretch is a hold. Kobolds funnel in around the Tree of Life in mixed groups, and the party clears them before they pile up. Three enemy types carry the phase.
- Kobold Escort Guards, the frontline bodies that soak damage
- Kobold Chargers, which close distance fast
- Kobold Snipers, which hit from the outer ring

Destroyer of the World Tree Kobold King
Once the waves are done, a short cinematic plays and the Kobold King leaps into the arena to open the final phase. From there the fight is continuous, with no downtime between the cutscene and the first attack.

The boss, listed in full as Destroyer of the World Tree Kobold King, runs through several health bars. Two things happen at the same time throughout. Adds keep arriving and need clearing, and the boss telegraphs area attacks on the ground that you have to walk out of. A clean five-player clear lands a little under five minutes.
Kobold King rewards and how to confirm the clear
When the boss goes down, the results screen reads Kobold King 1 Success and shows your clear time next to the loot you earned. That screen is the confirmation the run counted, and Lesser Rune Piece (Bound) is the item to look for in the reward list.
| Item | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lesser Rune Piece (Bound) | Rune material | Bound to the character |
| Clear time | Result stat | Shown on the success screen |
You can check the payout before committing to a run. Open the Expedition menu, select Kobold King, and read the Expected Rewards list, where tapping Lesser Rune Piece brings up its item popup and its collection tab.
Kobold King does not hand out new Collection registrations. Other bosses, such as Hungr, do add entries, so if you are chasing Collection completion specifically, this expedition is not the one to farm.
Level 70 unlocks that make the rune reward useful
Hitting level 70 opens an additional rune slot on the rune wheel, which is what gives the expedition’s rune material somewhere to go. You can fill that slot by equipping an epic rune obtained with Blue Emblems or by combining runes you already hold.
The same milestone stacks a few other things onto your character at once.
- Main quest chapter 27, “Seed Blooming in the Labyrinth”, becomes available
- Four extra potential points for attack power, against a level 50 cap per node
- The Lv. 70 Achievement Challenge Package, containing skill books, promotion stones and gold
- Saga chapters in the Tome of Memory, which unlock after completing Main Quest 27-1
- The Saga content unlocks Black Valkyrie; its grid contains nodes plus clues tied to Drangrjar and Zeztir.
Where to farm mastery materials at level 70
Mastery becomes relevant the moment you reach 70, and Mastery Tier 1 needs Trace of Abyss. That material drops from level 70 monsters in Hilder’s Labyrinth 1F, which is also where the Request Board in Asgard Castle points you with newly unlocked quests such as “A Corpse That Seeks a Fight”. Stock up on potions from the Misc. Merchant first, then fast travel straight in from the map.

Most clearable groups inside consist of Rampaging Harpy Henchmen, while stronger enemies such as Rampaging Harpy and Evil Sea Jotunn Captain are spread across the floor. Players who prefer buying the materials can find both traces at the Trade Station: Trace of Abyss costs 65 diamonds, and Trace of Starlight costs 50 diamonds.
Put together, the level 70 bracket is a short checklist rather than a grind wall. Clear Kobold King 1 for the rune piece, slot the new rune, spend the achievement package, and keep Hilder’s Labyrinth 1F in rotation while you push chapter 27 forward.
