Lunka’s Fate in The Blood of Dawnwalker, Explained

Coen's captured sister survives the finale, but Brencis leaves her in a state that plays out the same way across every ending.

Coen’s captured sister survives the finale, but Brencis leaves her in a state that plays out the same way across every ending.

Lunka is the reason Coen races against the clock in The Blood of Dawnwalker. She is his younger sister, taken by the vampire lord Brencis and held to force Coen’s hand, and the entire 30-day campaign is built around getting her back. When the final confrontation with Brencis finally arrives, though, she is not among the family members waiting to be freed.

Quick answer: Lunka does not die. Brencis turns her into a vrakhir, and Coen ends the story hiding his transformed sister in a cave while he searches for a cure. Her fate is identical in every ending.

What actually happens to Lunka

After Coen defeats Brencis, the vampire lord makes a point of promising the “last laugh” from beyond the grave, a clear signal that he has already done something to the family. A short time skip follows. Coen then discovers that Brencis turned Lunka into a vrakhir, a bloodthirsty creature stripped of who she used to be.

You never see the moment Brencis does this. His parting threat is the only confirmation that he is behind it, but the game treats his involvement as fact. The result is that Lunka survives the events of the story while ending up in a condition that most characters would consider worse than dying.

The cave scene in Things Will Be Different Now

Lunka’s condition is revealed during the epilogue quest Things Will Be Different Now. Regardless of how the assault on the castle played out, Coen returns to Laslea Glen and helps the villagers with ordinary chores before heading to a cave where he has been keeping his sister hidden.

Inside, Lunka is chained to a wall in her vrakhir form, growling from the darkness. Coen brings her keepsakes from their past to try to reach her, but she does not respond. She is no longer in her right mind and only seems to hunger for blood. Coen does not know whether a cure exists, and he leaves the valley with his transformed sister covered up in a cart.

A few characters can appear alongside him at this point, depending on earlier choices. Lacra shows up if you never betrayed her, and Vicho joins if you kept him alive by continuing to feed him blood.

Lunka’s outcome is the same in every ending

The Blood of Dawnwalker has seven possible endings, four that involve storming Griefberg Castle and three that end the game early. The rest of Coen’s family can live or die based on your decisions and whether the 30-day timer runs out, but Lunka’s transformation is a fixed outcome. Even in the endings where everyone else is saved, she is still turned.

Ending routeRest of the familyLunka
A Lone Wolf’s Hunt (solo)Saved in timeTurned into a vrakhir
Rise at Dawn, Fall Before Dusk (with Crake and the Manumits)SavedTurned into a vrakhir
Midnight Reckoning (with Lacra)Saved if you fight Brencis togetherTurned into a vrakhir
A Deal With the DevilAppears to die after the parlayTurned into a vrakhir

Because the result never changes, there is no branch, item, or choice that lets you spare Lunka her transformation within the base game. Any attempt to “save” her ends the same way in the epilogue.

Who Neberu and the Augurs are

While Coen is in the cave with Lunka, a stranger named Neberu appears out of nowhere and offers to keep her condition secret. He introduces himself as an Arbiter, a figure who solves problems, and says he works for the Augurs, a hidden council that opposed Brencis and his rule.

Neberu then extends an invitation for Coen to join them, hinting that the Augurs may be able to help with his sister. The game keeps the details vague and does not fully explain what Neberu or the council are, which leaves Lunka’s long-term fate open. Her transformation is the door through which this larger mystery enters the story, and it sets up threads that a future entry could pick up.

So while Coen technically keeps his sister alive, the version of Lunka he set out to rescue is gone by the time the credits roll. She survives, but as a vrakhir with no memory of him, and the only hope offered is a cure that has not yet been found.
