Minecraft: How to Craft Concrete Stairs and Slabs in All 16 Colors

Colored concrete finally gets stair and slab shapes in Minecraft’s 26.3 update, covering all 16 concrete colors. That means you can keep a build one solid color from floor to roof without falling back on quartz or stone for the sloped parts. Both shapes use the standard crafting patterns, so if you have made wooden or stone stairs before, the process will feel familiar.

Quick answer: Place 6 concrete blocks of one color in a staircase pattern on the crafting grid to get 4 concrete stairs, or place 3 concrete blocks in a single row to get 6 concrete slabs.

What you need before crafting

You only need two things: solid concrete blocks in the color you want and a crafting table. The block color you feed in is the color you get out, so decide on the shade first. Both recipes require every block in the grid to be the same color.

Solid concrete starts as concrete powder, which you make from 4 sand, 4 gravel, and 1 dye of your chosen color. The powder only turns into a hard block once it touches water, and that hardened block is what both recipes call for. Mining concrete powder alone will not work, since the powder cannot be shaped into stairs or slabs.

Craft concrete stairs

The stair recipe matches every other stair in the game. Six concrete blocks arranged as a staircase shape produce four stairs, and the layout can be flipped left or right without changing the result.

Right-click the crafting table to open the 3×3 grid.

Fill the entire first column with three concrete blocks of the same color.

Add two more concrete blocks along the bottom row, then place the last block in the center square to complete the staircase shape. Four concrete stairs appear in the output slot, and you can drag them into your inventory.

Craft concrete slabs

Slabs are faster to make and give you more blocks per craft. A single row of three concrete blocks returns six slabs.

Open the crafting table again to bring up the 3×3 grid.

Place three concrete blocks of the same color across any one of the three rows. Six concrete slabs appear in the output slot, ready to move into your inventory.

Slabs work well for balconies, countertops, desks, shelving, and low furniture, while stairs handle roofs, corners, and stepped facades.

You can also mix concrete with natural stone for softer builds, or combine slabs with cushions to shape couches and seating. Because the shapes exist in every color now, pixel art and layered floors no longer break where a slope or half-block is needed.
