The Dappled Forest is a cold woodland packed with red, orange, and yellow poplar trees, and it’s one of the harder biomes to stumble into by accident. It only spawns in a narrow set of conditions, and it never sits next to other forests, so knowing where to look saves a lot of aimless walking.
Quick answer: Enable cheats and run /locate biome minecraft:dappled_forest in the chat box. The nearest Dappled Forest’s coordinates appear instantly, and you can click them to teleport there.
Where the Dappled Forest generates
Dappled Forests form in cold regions with very low humidity and high weirdness values. That placement means they commonly border Plains, Sunflower Plains, Ice Spikes, and Cherry Grove biomes. Whenever you cross into one of those areas, check every neighboring region, because a Dappled Forest is likely nearby.
They will never border another woodland biome, so if you’re standing in a birch forest, taiga, or dark forest, you’re in the wrong place. The biome can appear on almost any terrain, whether that’s flatland near windswept gravelly hills, ground close to cold oceans, or mountainsides leading up toward frozen peaks. Rivers and mountain valleys often separate a Dappled Forest from the plains beside it.
Size varies wildly. Some patches are tiny microbiomes of only a few trees, while others stretch across hundreds of blocks. If you fly with an Elytra from a decent height, the bright orange grass and warm leaves stand out sharply against surrounding snow and green, which makes spotting one from a distance far easier than searching on foot.
Note: On worlds you played before the biome existed, it can only generate in chunks you haven’t loaded yet. To find one in an old save, travel far into unexplored territory rather than searching areas you’ve already visited.

How to recognize a Dappled Forest
The biome reads as autumn year-round. The grass takes on a saturated orange tint, and poplar trees with red, orange, or yellow leaves cover most of the canopy from below. Fallen poplar logs are common set pieces, and shelf mushrooms grow on the standing trees. Spruce trees turn up occasionally, but poplars dominate. The water is a very dark, almost black blue, while the underwater fog is white and roughly twice as dense as normal.

The Dappled Forest is the only place poplar wood grows, so it’s the sole source of that warm grey plank set. It’s also one of several biomes where an Abandoned Camp can generate, complete with a wool tent and loot in chests and barrels.
Mobs you’ll meet
No mob is exclusive to the biome. During the day you’ll typically see cold variants of farm animals, along with foxes and rabbits. After dark, the usual hostile crowd can appear, including Creepers, Skeletons, Spiders, Zombies, Endermen, Witches, and Zombie Villagers. In Bedrock Edition the tree density is higher, which can leave shaded spots dark enough for hostile mobs to spawn even during daytime, so keep that in mind while exploring.

Which versions have the Dappled Forest
The Dappled Forest arrives with the Wilderness Bound update and is currently experimental. In Java Edition it appears in the 26.3 snapshot builds, and in Bedrock Edition it’s in the 26.40 Preview and later, where you need to switch on the Drop 3 experimental toggle in a new world’s settings before generating it. It is not present in the stable releases yet, and existing worlds won’t retroactively add the biome. If the command returns nothing and the terrain looks wrong, confirm your build actually includes the biome before spending time searching.
