Modern Warfare 4: How to Get the $5 Xbox Gift Card Pre-Order Bonus

Pre-ordering any digital edition on the Xbox Store adds a $5 gift card and a dual 2XP pack to your account.

Pre-ordering any digital edition on the Xbox Store adds a $5 gift card and a dual 2XP pack to your account.

Pre-ordering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 digitally on Xbox adds two extras to your account beyond the game itself. Activision is handing out a $5 Xbox Gift Card, or the local equivalent, along with a dual 2XP pack. Both arrive after purchase rather than at checkout, so you claim them once the codes go out.

Quick answer: Pre-order any digital edition of Modern Warfare 4 through the Xbox Store to qualify. Your $5 Xbox Gift Card and dual 2XP pack codes are delivered within 35 days of the game’s launch, and you redeem the gift card through the Xbox App or the Xbox redeem page.

What the Xbox pre-order bonus includes

The promotion bundles two separate rewards. The first is a $5 Xbox Gift Card, delivered as a code you can apply to your Microsoft account balance. The second is a dual 2XP pack, which shows up as a notification through the Xbox app.

The dual pack contains two tokens. One grants an hour of 2XP for general progression, and the other grants an hour of 2x Weapon XP for leveling loadout weapons. These tokens speed up account and weapon progression, but they cannot be used to unlock the Modern Warfare 4 beta rewards.

Who qualifies for the reward

Eligibility is tied to a digital pre-order placed through the Xbox Store. Any digital edition counts, so the Standard, Vault, and higher tiers all trigger the bonus. Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and it is not available with Game Pass at launch.

Note: Microsoft does not charge for a pre-ordered game until roughly a week and a half before release, so the game price sits as a pending order until then.

When the codes arrive and how to redeem them

Codes are not instant. They are sent to qualifying accounts within 35 days of the Modern Warfare 4 launch, so expect them to land in the weeks following release day rather than at the moment you pre-order.

Watch for the dual 2XP pack notification in the Xbox app, and check your account for the gift card code within the 35-day window after launch.
Open the Xbox App or go to the Xbox redeem page and enter the gift card code. The value is added to your Microsoft account balance once accepted.
Confirm the redemption worked by checking your account balance in the Microsoft Store or Xbox App. A successful gift card claim shows the $5 (or local equivalent) added to your available funds.

2XP token limits you should track

The 2XP tokens carry two caps that affect how quickly you can burn through them. Each account can use a maximum of one hour of each 2XP token per day in-game. On top of that, Activision limits each account to 40 hours of each 2XP token across all promotional events combined.

That shared 40-hour ceiling matters if you have collected 2XP from other campaigns, such as the Monster Energy tie-in cans. Time claimed from those promotions counts toward the same cap, so keep a running tally if you want to make full use of the tokens from the Xbox bonus.

The $5 is a modest return on a full-price pre-order, but it stacks on top of the game and the XP boosts at no extra cost. For Xbox players already planning to buy Modern Warfare 4 digitally, it is credit that lands on your account balance to spend however you like.
