The two conditions that unlock a team switch in MyCareer, plus what to weigh before you pick a new franchise.

Switching franchises in NBA 2K27‘s MyCareer works much like it did last year, but you cannot do it the moment you start a new save. A trade only becomes available once your MyPlayer has spent enough time on the roster you began with, and the game routes that move through free agency rather than an instant request.

Quick answer: Finish your first full season with your starter team, then play through the offseason and sim to the All-Star game, at which point free agency opens and you can move to a new team.

The two conditions to unlock a trade

Moving teams depends entirely on where you are in the career timeline. You have to meet two requirements in order before the option to sign elsewhere appears.

RequirementWhat it means
Complete the first seasonPlay through your entire first year with your starter NBA team. This has to be finished before the next step counts.
Finish the offseasonWork through the offseason activities. This period kicks off free agency, which is when the actual switch happens.

After the offseason begins, keep advancing until the All-Star game. That is the point in the calendar where free agency lets you commit to a different franchise.

How to reach free agency faster

Play out or sim your remaining regular-season and offseason games until the season concludes and the offseason opens. Simming shortens the wait considerably.
Continue simming through the offseason to the All-Star game to trigger free agency. Be aware that heavily simming matches hurts your in-game ratings and slows your potential growth, so play the games yourself if you care about your build.
Once free agency is live, browse the teams interested in signing you and confirm the move to complete the switch.

You will know it worked when your MyPlayer is signed to the new franchise and appears on its roster heading into the next season.

What to check before you pick a new team

When free agency opens, several teams may want to sign you, and the VC on offer is only one part of the decision. Squad depth matters just as much. If a team already has strong players in your position, you will be stuck with limited minutes until you prove yourself and earn a larger role.

Weigh the VC against playing time, then commit to the franchise that gives you the clearest path to the floor. That balance keeps your development on track while you settle in with your new team.
