Netflix sorts its entire catalog using a system of numeric genre codes that predates the streaming app itself, a holdover from the company’s DVD-by-mail days. Typing one of these codes into the search bar or browser skips the personalized homepage entirely and drops you straight onto a category page built around a specific mood, format, or region.

Open the Netflix app on your phone, tablet, or smart TV and tap the Search tab. Type or paste the code directly into the search field, for example 81466194, instead of a title name.
On a computer, open a browser and go to netflix.com/browse/genre/, then add the code to the end of that address. For example, netflix.com/browse/genre/81466194 opens the 90-Minute Movies category directly.
Note: Netflix licenses titles differently in every country, so a code that opens a full category in one region can return an error in another. That’s a licensing limit, not a sign the code itself is broken.

The numbering system goes back to Netflix’s DVD-by-mail catalog, when every micro-genre needed its own identifier to keep thousands of discs organized behind the scenes. Netflix now maintains more than 36,000 of these codes internally, covering everything from country-specific libraries to hyper-specific moods. Because new categories appear as viewing trends shift, it’s worth rechecking a code every so often if a favorite category suddenly stops loading.
