Entertainment and education at one go! How does that sound? Now sit back, turn on Netflix, and watch your favorite shows while learning new languages using Language Learning with Netflix chrome extension. How does this happen? Once you add this extension to your browser, you can view two subtitles together – the translated versions as well as the original dialogues. By comparing both, you can easily enrich your vocabulary. You can effortlessly grasp new dialects if you are already interested in a certain language and possess some basic know-how of the same.
Another feature on the tool highlights and grays out uncommon words so that you can get a better understanding. If you hover the cursor above a certain word, it will generate a pop-up dictionary. Once you click on the word, you can also hear the pronunciation. Automatic slowing down and playback options allow you to fine-tune your learning process further.
Currently, the extension is available for free, but in the future, it will turn into a paid version with the inclusion of more features — such as additional subtitles for dubbed dialogues.
Developed by David Wilkinson and Ognjen Apic, this Chrome extension will offer a library of several international languages such as – French, Spanish, Swedish, Danish, Dutch, English, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Turkish, and others.
As of now, it is available only for Chrome browsers; but there are ongoing discussions about its availability on the Netflix app in tablets and other streaming services. Follow this page for more recent, related developments. We will keep updating it.
