Once Human: How to Get Fridge at East Blackfell Junction

Salvage a Fridge from a roadside diner in Iron River and reverse engineer the recipe instead of spending Memetic points.

Salvage a Fridge from a roadside diner in Iron River and reverse engineer the recipe instead of spending Memetic points.

Once Human normally puts the Fridge behind the Refrigeration Memetic. That costs points you might want for other unlocks. There is a cheaper way. A working Fridge sits inside an abandoned diner in East Blackfell Junction, and you can carry it home, feed it to a workbench, and get the building recipe for good.

Quick answer: Use Facility Recycle on the Fridge in the East Blackfell Junction diner (Iron River). Then submit it at a Tech Research Workbench under Reverse Engineering → Construction to unlock the recipe.

Fridge location: the diner in East Blackfell Junction

East Blackfell Junction is in the Iron River region and has a recommended level of 25. The quickest way in is the Worldstone – East Blackfell Junction teleport. If you haven’t unlocked it yet, repair the Worldstone when you arrive. That’s part of the area’s exploration objectives, and it makes return trips painless.

From the Worldstone, look for the building on the main road. These details will confirm you’re at the right building:

  • An abandoned roadside diner with a striped awning
  • Parked cars along the road out front
  • Inside, the white Fridge sits with the service counter on one side and vending machines on the other.
  • A pulse scan from outside highlights the Fridge along with nearby crates

Pick up the Fridge with Facility Recycle

Walk into the diner and go to the Fridge next to the vending machines. Stand close enough for the interaction prompt to appear.
Hold the interaction key on the Facility Recycle prompt. Keep holding until the action completes. Letting go early cancels it.

Check your inventory for Fridge [1]. If it’s there, the pickup worked and you can leave.

Recycling a facility is loud. The game flashes “Alert the Enemies!” and nearby hostiles come toward the diner, so have a weapon ready before you start holding the key.

Unlock the Fridge recipe at the Tech Research Workbench

Carrying a Fridge around doesn’t teach you how to build one. You need to research it in your territory.

Go back to your territory and open a Tech Research Workbench.
Open the Reverse Engineering tab to convert salvaged items into permanent recipes.
Open the Construction category and select Fridge.
Click Join Research Queue. The research finishes in roughly 10 to 15 seconds.

Once research completes, the Fridge shows as unlocked under Reverse Engineering's Construction category. Shown at 00:55 in HeRo Survival Guides’s video. Image: Starry Studio

You’ll know it worked when the Fridge appears as unlocked in the Construction list and becomes available to build in your territory. The unlock is permanent, and no Memetic points were spent.

Fridge build cost and the Refrigeration Memetic

The Memetic route still exists. Refrigeration sits in Tier 3 of the Logistics branch, after Cooking II and Electric Stoves. Either way, you end up with the same recipe. The standard build cost looks like this:

MaterialQuantity
Steel Ingot15
Copper Ingot10
Standard Part15
Glass10
Electronic Part20

Some scenarios and server settings use different recipe variants, so check the Build Mode cost in your own world before you farm materials. A Fridge you already have in your inventory can also be placed instead of building a new one.

After you place it, the Fridge needs power before it does anything. It draws 2 Watts, which a Solar Generator wired into your base can cover. While it’s powered, food stored inside spoils much more slowly than food left in your bag. If you load Purified Water into it, it also makes Ice Cubes.
