Overrun and Outnumbered begins the moment Edward and James Kidd climb back out of the Mayan hideout and find the Templars, backed by British soldiers, storming the island of Tulum. The Assassins there have been rounded up and are held at gunpoint, so this stretch of Sequence 4 is built entirely around stealth. Rush in and the guards execute their prisoners, which fails the objective on the spot.
Quick answer: Use the Blowdart’s Sleep Dart to knock out the guards holding each group, dispatch them quietly, and free all nine captured Assassins without triggering open combat. Once every prisoner is loose, follow the marker to James Kidd and Ah Tabai to end the mission.

How Overrun and Outnumbered starts and what you get
The mission triggers automatically after you finish exploring the ancient temple and learn the Sage’s identity. As you surface, James Kidd hands Edward a new tool, the Blowdart, which is the key to the whole sequence. It carries two ammo types, and knowing the difference matters for a clean run.
| Ammo type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sleep Dart | Puts a guard to sleep silently so you can approach and dispatch him without alerting the group |
| Berserk Dart | Turns a target hostile toward nearby soldiers, useful for thinning a cluster of guards |
Your goal is to release a total of nine Assassins spread across the ruins, the village, and the higher settlements. The Sleep Dart handles almost every encounter, so lead with it and only close in once a guard is down.

Return to James Kidd to finish the mission
With every prisoner freed, follow the objective marker to James Kidd and Ah Tabai. You watch the British forces withdraw from the shores of Tulum. After a short objective, Kidd introduces Edward to the contract system the Assassins run across the Caribbean, then leads you into the inner sanctum of the Mayan Temple and points out a particular sealed door.
You know the mission is over once Kidd shows you that door in the temple’s inner sanctum. As in the original game, it hides the Mayan Armor, but the seal only opens after you collect the Mayan Stones scattered around the Caribbean. Reaching this point ends Overrun and Outnumbered.

What completing this mission unlocks
Finishing Overrun and Outnumbered opens the Mayan Mysteries side quest, based out of Tulum, Conttoyor. That quest asks you to gather all 16 Mayan stelae and solve their puzzles to break the seal in Tulum, which ties directly back to the door Kidd shows you at the end. If you plan to chase the Mayan Armor, this is the mission that sets that whole thread in motion.
